Some places will likely
receive over a foot of snow, and cannot rule out at least isolated
totals over 15 inches, mainly between Interstates 44 and 40.
What is happening..I don't ever remember the NWS this aggressive so far out

Winter storm watch now says 6+ inches likely for some areas, up from 4 yesterday. Also an extreme cold watch is in effect for -16F wind chill or worse

This is gonna be nasty

Looking at the models, a tenth to two tenths of precip falls in Houston with temps at/below freezing. Except for those people who have to drive (cops, firefighters, doctors) this should be fairly low impact.
Impactful as all heck if you are that nurse driving to your job in the exurbs and you have to drive across any creeks.
Not sure how far south down I-35 the freezing line makes it, maybe as far as San Antonio. Major impact from there up into Oklahoma. I think EWX should extend winter advisories/watches a row or two of counties farther S. It is hilly on the W side of Austin, it won't take much to make those areas a driving disaster.

Well seems as though everything has trended north. Going to be a sleet fest in DFW it looks like. Oh well beggars can’t be choosers.

Seriously I have never seen the NWS talk like this when it's still 2 days away
They are already mentioning what would be historic totals in the AFD too like what
I don't think people realize how big of a deal this is gonna be. They are just assuming it's another random flurry which is all the whole winter has had

It's only Wednesday and the recon data had not even made it in. Still time for plenty of wobbles and swings.

I would feel more confident in a wobble or swing if every single model didn’t trend north.

I am just an observer here but wanted to ask, what is it looking like for me in Victoria, Tx? Any chance of frozen precipitation? I have to drive from El Campo to Victoria on Saturday morning and need to know what I should expect.

I haven't really checked the latest guidance, but are you saying every model is trending North with just shorts and t-shirt weather here in Dallas, maybe a little rain, or is there still a chance we could get hammered? Because honestly, as a homeowner, I'm not a fan of ice or snow – too much stress, and while it's fun to play in, I really don't want to deal with rolling power outages again.

Warm nose issue big time was hoping the snow line would get pushed our way. Temps will start coming into view tonight but the primary precipitation for DFW looks to be sleet and more freezing rain could become a factor.

Yep. The snow chances look to be pretty much out the window no matter how you slice it.
The question now is whether it will a sleet fest, crippling ice storm, or a cold rain.
I'm hoping for the cold rain at this point. The other crap would be disgusting.

Most (if not all) of the actual snow in North Texas was out towarda Graham, Cisco and Bowie where roughly a half foot fell.
Tulsa had its worst snowstorm on record then at 14 inches

AccuWeather actually has a chance at 15 right now

This is your momemt. Congrats!

Yeah might as well after last years warm nose issues I’m over it lol. I sat at 32.9 degrees and it rained about an inch. 15 miles north got like 3 inches of snow I got about 15 minutes of flakes lol.

Let me quote HGX's sage advice again as we go into this event...
Historically speaking, which may or may not be useful for this
particular event, these shallow cold airmasses typically arrive
faster and are colder than global guidance indicates. It`s also
not uncommon to see some general consistency for several days,
then some runs where guidance looses the signal, before it
magically reappears in later runs. Try not to follow any
individual model suite/run...or individual social media
snapshot. Trends are your friend.

FWIW, while the EURO looks bad at face value, it actually keeps temps in the 30-32*F range in DFW for the brunt of the event (doesn't fall before that until Saturday evening, when the precipitation is tapering off).

Same $&@$ another year.
When can I get a decent snow here? It’s either north or south.
The precip orientation is now SW to NE. That spells doom.
We will see what the data says later today. Still hopeful for change. Sometimes they revert back.

If you were hoping for cold rain, you wouldn’t be here.
