Hey...Good to be Back
It's been a personally trying few months. My youngest son...and I had suspected this for a while...has been diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum disorder...known as Aspergers disease. He is an extreemly bright...gifted and brilliant child...but it's been a difficult few months adjusting and getting him on track in a great local program. Anyway...he'll be fine...but I felt I owed anyone who's interested an explaination. I'm not a big jerk who doesn't respond to email...I just kind of got burnt out.
Ok...back on topic. What a season! Isabel hanging around for over a week as a major, with the embedded vorticies, has to be the highlight of the last several seasons for me. The image with the pentagram shape still sits on my desktop...and I'm going to make some prints for framing in the next couple of weeks. I'm just glad that monster didn't come ashore as strong as it was...
Gray...for as much bashing as he took...did a pretty good job this year. I wonder how much longer he will hang on with as much indirect pressure from the government as he's getting.

Wow Mike!
I have Asperger's Syndrome. I created a thread about it, for some reason it disappeared.
I believe I posted the link above in a thread Jeremy (therock1811) created several days ago.
Great to have you back. I look forward to corresponding with you more so than before.

Hey Coldfront!
I didn't see your thread...please repost if you can.
Goodness...he is smart. He remembers EVERYTHING. I can't get anything by him. It's great to see that someone with Aspergers (you) can prosper. I wouldn't trade him...or his personality...for anything. There isn't a day where he doesn't make me laugh (in a good way).

I don't have the text from the thread. I used the 'search feature' to find it, no luck. I also went through several of the pages in the Off Topic forum using Ctrl+F and it didn't find the word "Asperger's."
I mentioned it at TWC Off Topic forum, then started the thread back in the Spring, I believe. There was a bit of discussion, but not too much.
I bumped it up from time to time, but it kept getting buried.

I also have Asperger's and autism, Mike. People with this disorder rarely let anything get by them, as you said. They also seem to have a photographic memory, and in my case (and apparently Tom's as well) a mind for numbers. We (as a whole, that is) tend to be anti-social, as I can definitely attest to. I rarely get out, I spend most of my day on the compy (which I am sure is blatantly obvious
).

Glad to see you again on-line Mike and let's see what the 2004 season has instored for us after an active 2003.

I tend to get caught up in thought and miss the off ramp on the way home...more often that I'd like to admit.
There was an article several months ago that drew a link between the behavior of Newton and einstein...that perhaps they exhibited signs of Aspergers. I also read that children of mathematicians...scientists and computer programmers (etc.) have a better chance of ending up with some sort of ASD. And folks with AS can do very well in technical and scientific roles later in life.
Maybe he'll follow in my footsteps...my oldest boy rolls his eyes whenever I bring up weather to him...just like 99.999% of the people I interact with. But the little guy loves to look at radar and satellite loops...and has seen the movie twister about 40 times.

Great Post
Great post Coldfront. After reading your post it makes me wonder how much I passed on to my son. Probably more than I thought.
Although technically off topic...I'm glad this topic has come out.

Thank you very much Mike. I'm also glad there was truly an excellent reason to repost a thread about Asperger's Syndrome. AS has a unique and positive set of traits.
