My Kansas home is full of them when we go there July 4.

Never seen one here in DFW. Wish I would. Love lightning bugs.

Wish I had better news but the 500mb pattern looks to get worse. Outside of fantasy cutoff troughs heights across Alaska and the Bering looks to go even more unfavorable for us. We just have to rely on climo...

I think im about done with living in texas, im over this above normal temperature junk, heck even the winter is starting to look ugly down here based on some of the analogs being thrown around by some, It’s impossible to have normal fall weather these days, just absolutely putrid

I have to agree. I don't want to get too deep, but weather wise the temperate zone most of us are looking for has shifted north. You probably want to be between I-40 to I-70 zone. South of I-40 the warmer seasons are extending consistently.

Apparently was a grass fire here

Just hard to believe after how good the rain was for months. We're still over a foot above normal for the year! :spam:

Im growing a little more optimistic about a pattern change beyond the 14th /15th or so, GFS/ Euro have a - NAO blocking pattern over greenland and the NE US, as a result they have multiple troughs digging into the SW US and moving across texas on their respective runs, some rain chances showing up as well as the potential for more cooler air, just something i noticed in the models when looking for clues for a pattern change

Born and raised in Dallas and now live in the OKC area. I think this is absolutely correct. OKC weather now reminds me more of what it was like growing up in Dallas. I've lived here for 25 years now and have noticed the warmer temps for the most part are extending into October. We will get one to two weeks a year of some pretty cold temps, but even the snowfall as dropped off over the last 10 years with the exception of 20-21.

Interesting trends on the EPS/ AIFS ensemble suites, the trend has been toward eroding aleutian troughing over Alaska , not a - EPO signature yet on those ensembles, but increasing heights for sure, its nor reflected at the surface yet, but I do like the direction the EPS/ AIFS ensembles are going in, strong - NAO block as well could help to slow down storm systems

I wonder if this pattern got gridlocked like this because of Imelda and Humberto

Winter 2020-2021 :cold:

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Larry Cosgrove is pretty convinced that we are going to have colder air enter the US at some point in october, also has an interesting take on this upcoming winter

While not reflected at the surface yet, the EPS is trending toward a -EPO/- NAO / neutral PNA type pattern in the extended range, starting to see our source region cool down on the GEPS, which has actually trended toward cooler weather for a large part of the US, we will see, but the 500 MB height pattern is starting to look less ugly than what it seemed a few days ago, though we got a long ways to go here

Even Steve McCauley mentioned a pattern change and anyone in DFW knows when he brings it up it's probably for real

One of the forecast discussions brought this up about 10 days ago but you’d think it would have cleared up by now with both of those storms long gone.
