Garrettj,

For ease of finding various seasonal forecasts that fit the description of what you're mentioning and the reasoning behind them, the following links are useful:

I was going to say that there's been quite a bit of discussion already from our "resident experts".

Asking "how much snow for Virginia?" is a fairly generic question, since Roanoke VA would be much different than say, Norfolk VA. But either way, I think on the whole VA should have about 20% more snow than average, and temps will be about 1 degree below normal from Dec 15 through March 15.

You hit the nail on the head in regards to Virginia ... Dependant on where you're located in Virginia will greatly determine the likelihood (or lack thereof) of snowfall during the course of a winter season ...

Places like Virginia Beach rarely see snowfall, while you go deeper into the Appalachain Chain, snowfall averages are quite impressive ... and locales (Hot Springs, VA) can get downright frigid during the course of the winter season ...

in some seasons (El nino years especially) roanoke VA would see well above normal snowfall while norfolk sees little if any.

Very broad question and decent answer. In general, snowfall increases with altitude and latitude. Best snows of coures along the spine of the blue ridge.

I ca back SF on that, Va Beach averages just over a trace of snow a year, while Norfolk only 3inches....but get away from the water and Richmond gets nearly a foot and Charlottesville close to 18 inches....so if I want snow, and I do not , i would have to leave Va Beach...and that aint happinin
