Will Erin be the strongest storm of the 2025 NATL season?

#1 Postby Teban54 » Tue Aug 19, 2025 9:28 am

Now that Erin seems unlikely to surpass its peak intensity (even if some reintensification occurs tomorrow), its official peak is 140 kt / 915 mb.

Will this go down as the best that 2025 has to offer?

Poll options: (Mods, can you make this a poll?)
  • Erin will be the strongest storm of the season
  • One storm will be stronger than Erin
  • Two storms will be stronger than Erin
  • Three or more storms will be stronger than Erin

Based on recent years with an extremely strong pre-Sept like Erin, the strongest is yet to come. Guessing 1 or 2 stronger. I’ll pick 1 to be “conservative”.

Could be recency bias since we've had five cat 5s in the last three years, but I'll go with one more category 5 storm this season. 145 - 150 kt, somewhere in the Caribbean, late-September to early-October.

One storm stronger.

If I were to predict, it will be Rebekah in mid-October.

This feels like the "will Beryl be the strongest storm of the season" question from last year.

Nope :P

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

I went with Erin being the strongest, but only because there was no option for one additional "AS STRONG" major hurricane. Hey, wouldn't it be a hoot if it were 99L?

Well, yes, in a manner of speaking, it would be "a hoot," so long as it flexes while in the middle of the Caribbean Sea (presuming that's where it's headed), far away from any populated areas, including cruise ships unfortunate enough to somehow find themselves caught in its web, despite all the technology at their disposal. I doubt whoever thought up imaginative names like Adventure of the Seas had deliberate excursions into hurricanes in mind, Voyager Class or not.

Err, methinks I've strayed a tad - just a tad - off-topic.
What was it about again?

Great question! Erin was one of those storms that came off the coast of Africa with little doubt it would become a storm. It could have already been a storm when it was moving through the Cape Verde Islands. I think their will be at least one more strong wave to exit Africa maybe at a lower height than Erwin and become even stronger than Erwin!

I think Erin will be the strongest of the season. I'm hoping the Tropics come to an abnormal early end by the end of September like they have in a couple of seasons. I'm ready for winter, so sick of this heat.

I think the Eastern Gulf produces a Michael like storm in October. Cat 4s and 5s seem a regular occurrence for the Florida W Coast and Panhandle. I went 1 storm stronger.

Still, highest wind or highest ACE?
