I Finally Have More Hurricane (and other storm) Art

#1 Postby storm_in_a_teacup » Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:46 am

I skipped posting hurricane art for a few years, but I finally have some new stuff.

Most of these images depict characters and scenes from Melissa and the Allies of Gaia--Part 1, the story on WattPad I posted a link to last year. The Allies of Gaia are a select group of people that partner with the spirits/avatars of different forces of nature to help protect the balance of the planet.

Image
The main character is Melissa herself. She is rather childish young adult living in Galveston who is accidentally mailed the avatars of Hurricane Carla and the 1900 storm. Needless to say, havoc insues.
(The storm avatars have two main forms: a miniature/chibi form that's only about the size of a small dog, and a larger full-size form that's like an actual hurricane)

Image
She gets initiated into the Allies of Gaia program by Chastity, who of course has trained her hurricanes much better than Melissa. Her partners are Hurricane Camille and the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935.

Image
As part of her first mission, Melissa has to stop some fishermen who have been using waterspouts to catch fish in an Alabama marsh. At first the waterspouts seem relatively harmless, playful even...

Image
But then Melissa discovers that the waterspouts are summoned by a thunderstorm avatar that the fishermen have stolen.

Image
The thunderstorm eventually transforms into a supercell and drops a waterspout that is an actual tornado. Melissa decides to be like Pecos Bill and just wrap the waterspout up in fishing line. This works about as well as you'd imagine.

Image
After doing a bunch of Allies of Gaia stuff, Melissa returns to Galveston to start medical school at UTMB. Unfortunately, tragedy follows her. One of the unfortunate things she discovers is that her boyfriend Ike is actually a human form of Hurricane Ike. He goes into a rage when Melissa does not accept his marriage proposal right away and Carla and 1900 fight him to save Melissa (though in 1900's case it's only because he views Ike as an annoying wannabe and wants to be the only one who gets to drown Melissa).

Image
At the end it is revealed that there a lot of hurricane avatars disguised as humans, sneaking around civilization without anyone knowing. Shown here are the miniature forms, full size forms, and human forms of Hurricane Harvey and Tropical Storm Allison. They have no real animosity towards humans in particular, but that is not true of all of the humanicanes...

Image
I have been working on Part 2. I originally intended the supercell to be a one-off character, but now that I live in northern Alabama and have supercells passing over my apartment every spring, I grew very attached to her. Melissa initially calls her "Mr. Thunders" but it turns out she was a partner to a member of the Allies of Gaia that was stolen. The supercell's true name is Empress, and her partner is Jeremy, who is crazy devoted to her (and ultimately intends to marry her). Her miniature form looks like a cartoony thundercloud.

Image
Empress' tornadoes are like her children. She is very protective of them, as can be seen when Labor Day tries to eat some of them. Melissa attempts to keep her as her own disaster avatar, but Empress is loyal to Jeremy only, and hates everyone else. She poops huge spiky hail all over her apartment and car.

Image
Jeremy rides Empress by basically being carried up her updraft and into a virtual cockpit inside her overshooting top. The strongest tornado avatar she can summon is Steve, who has horizontal vortices with even more subvortices that look like creepy arms and fingers. Fortunately unless Jeremy or Empress command him to he doesn't have much interest in attacking people.

Image
Just another shot of Empress with her eye just under her anvil, which is my preferred location for it. Her anvil is basically her hat, but a follower of mine thought the overshooting top looked like a broccoli hair cut.

Not shown, of course, is some of the scenes with 1900...which can be quite frightening.

I am in love with Labor Day's little blush. :P And Melissa should probably be glad that that's not REAL poop. lol

What is going on between Empress and Labor Day? They look like they're trying to kill each other.

This is the scene after Labor Day loses control of his hunger and eats Empress’ waterspouts
