I just read that water rescues are taking place in Orange County, the county where chapel Hill is located:

"’People trapped with water up to their necks or higher’ at camelot village apts in CH”

The Haw River near Bynum is now expected to crest higher than it did for Fran!

We had over 2 inches of rain in Florida one day last week and low areas do flood so the warnings were justified.

Again a weak storm is causing devastating flooding. Even a weak, slow moving tropical system can cause catastrophic flooding.

It is almost impossible it to predict where and how much rain will on a given area, especially with the inland terrain of the Carolinas, where a few miles difference of heavy rainfall be the difference between relatively minor flooding or catastrophic flooding. I hate to see the flash floods and people being caught off guard these past weeks are especially painful as was last year.

Flash flood warnings are nothing to take lightly and I hope we can find better ways to get that message across. Maybe something like a code red flash flooding warning in the future that will get the general public attention more than a normal flash flood warning.
