Yeah, I mean, you can get severe weather any time of the day, but I just feel like the chances are way less during those hours. I’ve always felt like the biggest severe weather threat was from like 3-8pm, especially if the sun is out most of the day.

Arguably the worst straight-line wind event in recorded history for DFW occurred at diurnal minimum (~5am) one year ago (5/27).

EDIT: The purported 3-8pm severe weather events have been nothing more than a fairy tale the past half-decade.

Yup Monday with the weakening hail storm here at 4pm was the first time I ever remember a daytime event here and this is my 5th spring

The derecho in 23 which is the worst event I've seen here was also after midnight

The one Houston had last year was during the late afternoon-early evening hours & I feel like most of the bigger tornadoes occur during those hours too, but there’s definitely been a few strong ones occur past midnight as well.

SPC has indeed moved the enhanced risk further south into northern Bexar and even boosted tornado threat in the HC.

An outflow boundary has positioned itself in the southern HC points east so definitely one area to watch later this afternoon for possible storm initiation.

Strong rotation south of Mason. Could be a big tornado. Definitely a huge spinning meso.

Current radar brings a tear to my eye...so good to see widespread heavy thunderstorms across much of south central TX! Been way too long since SA has seen widespread totals over 1 inch. Hoping for more rounds this week before drier weather likely returns.

Yeah we're definitely cashing in tonight. Radar estimates of 2-4 inches with more falling as I type this. Flash flood warnings out of course. A few pockets of hail have fallen mainly across far west and northwestern areas of Bexar County.

All and in all a good night for many including the aquifer recharge zone. Making up for missed opportunities in the past month or so for sure.

Now that’s what’s up. A nice relatively surprise Memorial Day heavy rainfall event for the San Antonio metro tonight. The Houston metro experienced a relatively surprise heavy rain event 10 years ago on the night of Memorial Day. It’s known as the 2015 Memorial Day Flood here.

Mesoscale Discussion 1003
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1057 PM CDT Mon May 26 2025

Areas affected...southeast TX

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 335...

Valid 270357Z - 270530Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 335 continues.

SUMMARY...Strong to isolated severe gusts should persist overnight with the forward-propagating portion of an extensive QLCS moving east across southeast Texas.

DISCUSSION...The eastern flank of a broad arcing QLCS has been steadily progressing east at 35-40 kts. Despite earlier intense radar wind signatures, measured severe gusts have seemingly peaked around 50 kts with numerous strong, sub-severe gusts along the line. The forward-propagating portion of the QLCS may become detached from the trailing very deep convective cores along its southwest flank over the Brush Country of south TX. Prior convective overturning from earlier in the day activity, well sampled by the 00Z LCH/SHV soundings, suggests the northeast portion of the QLCS should struggle amid weak instability. Modification atop the prior outflow is underway per strong low-level southerlies in the CRP VWP and moderate southwesterlies in the HGX VWP. This suggests the greatest damaging wind potential may lie to the cool side of the pronounced MLCAPE gradient across northern parts of the Houston Metro towards Beaumont.

..Grams/Mosier.. 05/27/2025

...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...

ATTN...WFO...LCH...SHV...HGX...EWX...

MOST PROBABLE PEAK TORNADO INTENSITY...UP TO 95 MPH
MOST PROBABLE PEAK WIND GUST...55-70 MPH
MOST PROBABLE PEAK HAIL SIZE...UP TO 1.25 IN

That’s not a surprise! Longview usually gets a ton of rain compared to a lot of other places in the state.

I got 2.38” in the past 24 hours down here.

Ok, so second morning in a row my home thermometer has been down in the 40's. I am out in the "country" is there a chance it's that cool when I but up to an open field? It's checks with Denton airport normally and is right now with the temp.

Any thoughts?

Rain cooled air playing with me?

Lights blinked out a couple of times, two or five seconds at a time before coming back. But 6:45 am on FM 1960 at TC Jester, lights out, including McDonalds, for several blocks. I had breakfast but for the people that stop at that McDonalds, well.
