Got down to ten this morning. Was hoping for a 7 or 8 degree by sunrise.

One can make the argument normal are higher now, but raw temps it beats that also. It's the coldest for most north of the I-20 corridor in the US. It was along the gulf coast during the snow that it was lower down that way but not due to raw cold itself.
I keep telling people. The warmth is lasting longer into the year but it seems now the cold is stronger later as well. Nice to see numbers back it up
Coldest airmass of All-Time for these specific dates, compounded by overcoming a lot more urban induced heat (higher population density)and no snow cover…this one is pretty phenomenal!
Also of note: after tomorrow, you’ll likely have 9 of 28 Feb low max record highs set just in the past 10 years. 3 in 2015, 4 in 2021 and 2 in 2025. Pretty significant climate trend for late winter seasons

Coldest morning this late in the season since 1943, and 3rd coldest All-Time (March 3 1943 10F, March 11 1948 11F)
Austin Mabry set their coldest late season low max high yesterday of 28F All-Time as well, and just tied their coldest low min of 18F set in 1948
Considering the Urbanization since the 1940's, this is arguably the greatest late season Texas Arctic Outbreak since records have been kept!!!

In terms of magnitude it's probably top 3 coldest for the last stretch of winter to end winter. Those 1940s dates in March are pretty wild 25/11 for a day. We love to equate snow/ice to cold but that's not always the case, cold is a separate matter. The snowy stretches are much warmer 40s/20s type days. If you were looking for a cold end to winter, this blast is about as much as you will get against climo.

Feb 20th thru March - DFW's Coldest days in 125 plus years of record keeping: 1) March 11, 1948 25F/11F 2) Feb 24, 1960 28F/16F 3) March 1, 1922 29F/18F
Thinking today breaks into the #2 spot!
