Even on the day that these shallow fronts move through the Global models don't handle the air well. According to the GFS it should be 62 right now, we're currently already at 52 degrees.The GFS doesn't have us get down to the low 50's until 6 pm this evening... BTW the NAM has been doing a WONDERFUL job up here this week with temperatures.

A pleasant, but somewhat cool bike ride this morning. Temp is up to 81 at present. Can't beat this for February weather! I'm still not seeing any significant cold next week or the week after for Texas. D-FW area could get into the mid to upper 20s one night, while we're in the 40s for lows. Snow confined to northern OK. Nothing abnormal about the pattern, just as one would expect in February. My walls will hold just fine. I gave my pilot the rest of the winter off.

As I expected and usually happens January was peak winter this year. Spring thread will be started early this year.

Im not completely sold on spring making a permanent visit just yet, models have been very consistent in bringing the stratospheric polar vortex closer to NA around the 18-19th of the month, obviously climatology argues we warm up, but that being said, if the vortex especially since its the stratospheric one, ends up on the NA side of the globe, id argue we definitely would be in for a delayed spring

Our best shot of winter precipitation will come Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon. Right now temps look to be 5-7 degrees to warm even with the blended models for Wednesday-Thursday when we will be at the coldest readings. Let's see how tomorrow goes, current forecast high is 52, so let's see if we make it out of the 40s.

00z ICON looks more like the CMC, highs in the low- mid 40’s for even se texas, cold air overtakes the entire state, brief return flow before another surge of arctic air comes dowm

GFS trending colder into the medium range , arctic air spilling all the way down into mexico, nothing crazy, but mid 40’s for highs and upper 20’s for lows, arctic air always wins no matter the models trying to hold it back

I agree, even the NAM is busting with temps today, it had us only getting down to 36 degrees last night. We made it down to 31 degrees this morning. And its only 35 right now. The WRF ARW was the closest with temps. The WRF's tend to do a good job with shallow airmasses like this one.
