I’m at the southern border of Marion county, half mile north of Sumter/Lake counties. We’re already getting some pretty impressive gusts here for how far away the storm is.

House behind me didn’t secure their grill and it’s already come crashing down.

crazy winds in Venice and if you look at radar it appears like nothing is happening here. What is up with that?

Remember when people were celebrating that Milton had weakened to a Cat 2 (without official confirmation at all) and hoping for a Cat 1 at landfall?

Both FL winds (72+ kt) and SFMR show that hurricane winds extend to at least 28.5N at the moment.

NHC still says Category 3, flight level winds reduce to 105 knots, central pressure is just over 950 hPa (well within the typical range for a Category 3 hurricane). In what sense were they right?

Regardless of whether you're trusting FL winds or SFMR winds more, there's still enough support for a major hurricane now, hours after those users "declared" a Cat 2.

With 118kt FL, 101kt SFMR, and dropsondes finding 106kt avg winds on the north side (demonstrates good mixing in this part of the storm), this is pretty clearly still a category 3 hurricane.

The dry air that was ingested early this morning. Most of the rain will be north of center.
