Looking at the Lake Charles radar, so I'm not sure how high it's seeing at that range, but Thibodaux should be entering the northern part of the eye soon if it's not there already.

NOLA than the NHC or anyone thought.

You might actually be in the clear now, rain-wise. Looking from both Mobile and Lake Charles, the bottom half of the eye isn't even showing up on the radar — it just opens up into nothingness. I don't know if that's some sort of attenuation effect or not, but, as some folks mentioned earlier, it really looks to be essentially a halfacane in terms of the rain.

It is finally slacking off. It is dark outside so cant tell if my son has any damage, but i see on fb major damages in houma and down the bayou. It is like Ida all over again minus a few cat (s).

This whole struggle of Hurricane Francine reminds me of Hurricane Beryl, where when it seemed to be weakening, it maintained its strength and sometimes it even strengthened, as we saw it do in Jamaica and near the Yucatan peninsula. I also remember that some folks here that were afraid that fighting storms would become the big theme of 2024. Francine, despite all its ugliness, despite its flaws, despite the blows it took from the Wind Shear and dry air (and more! ), proved to be a very resilient hurricane. Let's see what will come later, in 15 - 20 days ahead.

so I'm a little concerned.

Yes the Northshore of Lake Ponchatrain looks to be getting it worse than I am, North of Lake Maurepas.

The Northshore has 3 HOURS of this left! And we still haven't gotten the worst of it. Power is out all over. Flooding is happening, there is surge in the Lakes.

And I'm curious what sort of effect being over the lakes does to a storm like this? Could it help sustain its strength?

Winds are usually higher blowing across large open bodies of water and there is an intense narrow eyewall with winds70+ mph that just cleared Armstrong international airport. Those wind speeds may not drop much in the next 3 or 4 hours inland. The worst wind and rain rates with gusts 50+ only lasts for an hour or so and then its pretty much over.

We got slammed here in Thibodaux. Never saw the water come up that high. We ended up getting water in our house. Luckily only our study and laundry room and not entire house.

Crazy that the eye, at least in the low levels popped out on radar tonight, I guess brown water effect and energy off of Lake Pontchartrain.

New Orleans airports reporting gusts to 48 and 42 kts, but sustained wind below TS strength. Francine is under-performing, which is good for my sister in the western eyewall. No obs close to hurricane strength yet, just strong wind gusts.

This weather station was on the weak side of the storm and I dont even think made it in the eyewall...

Edit, looking at the map it definitely took the N and/or NW eyewall.
