Re: Texas Summer 2024
Well we have a slight risk of severe weather but yeah otherwise it's just the worst humidity of the entire year

I'm trying not to have hope, but the weather app I use has dew points near 60 by late next week.

Re: Texas Summer 2024
Closer to normal after the weekend here
In the meantime were having storms overnight but all it's doing is making more humidity during the day
Also were losing 2 minutes of daylight a day now

Re: Texas Summer 2024
I think we will start to see a trend towards wetter conditions for texas over the next week or so, models are in agreement on some sort of gulf disturbance sliding in from the east, ridge really begins to back off , the 06z GFS continues mly brings in small embedded disturbances from the gulf through most of its run, pretty active for texas

See the current satellite / radar. Convection in Southern OK is overachieving and producing a fair amount of cloud debris has it slides southward towards North Texas.
The activity and cloud cover may eventually diminish enough to still hit the current forecast highs (since we're early in the day), but I would expect it to at least slow things down for the time being.
SPC, BTW, has also extended the marginal risk area SW to include the Red River counties and the NE edge of DFW...

Did end up a couple degrees below the forecast high, but still acheived a high of 101*F yesterday.
Meanwhile, 12z GFS is looking awfully different with the pattern this week (*TRIGGER WARNING*)...

I like to think it was fluke though.

It backs off on both the backdoor cold front Tuesday/Wednesday as well as the tropical activity by the end of the week / next weekend, as the ridge reinforces itself over North Texas.

Re: Texas Summer 2024
EWX mentioned hope of an inverted trough late this week/next weekend. Fingers crossed!
.LONG TERM...
(Monday night through Saturday)
Issued at 245 AM CDT Sun Aug 18 2024
Hot, hot, and more hot. If you like heat, you got it this week! The Subtropical High will remain in control and even take a stronger hold on the region by midweek, with highs perhaps climbing into the 105-107 range from the Rio Grande Plains through the I-35 Corridor and into portions of the northern Hill Country and Coastal Plains on Tuesday and Wednesday. Excessive Heat Warnings will likely be needed for air temperatures alone on those two days as we see our hottest days of the Summer so far. There is hope on the horizon after Wednesday though as the ridge may begin to push back west and weaken somewhat by late week. An inverted trough looks to undercut the ridge over the northern Gulf of Mexico as soon as Friday/Saturday. The GFS and ECM Ensembles are now starting to support this idea that was first noted on deterministic runs. For now, we will go with NBM guidance on PoPs and Temps, but we could see slightly cooler than normal temps by next weekend if this scenario unfolds. A wetter, muggy, and slightly cooler pattern could unfold as early as next weekend. We just have to get through the worst of the heat to get there.

Also the hottest day of the year thus far.
Lastly, this Summer is likely on track to be a top 20 warmest for DFW (in addition to this being a top 10 hottest August).

Re: Texas Summer 2024
We finally had a wind shift here and at least for the foreseeable future no more 100s. Last 2 years had 100s in September

Oh yeah, I was a young kid in San Antonio. We were walking our dog in the neighborhood, and I remember seeing the curved cirrus clouds from Alicia straight up above, moving ever so slightly. It was the coolest thing! Well, from San Antonio it was cool, but not the Houston area.lol

Re: Texas Summer 2024
I was thinking about how warm our winters have gotten, and some days that are 20+ degrees above average.
At least we don’t have to deal with those kind of extremes in the summer. Yikes.
Any summer that doesn’t make the top 10 hottest is a bonus now IMO.
