Is it just me or is the eyewall looking stronger than when it made landfall.

One of the mets on Channel 2 Houston said it was trying to do EWRC after landfall.

Beryl had an amazing structure right as it was making landfall. It would have likely become a powerful major hurricane again had it maybe 8 hours over water. Fortunately, that didn't happen.

Downtown doing okay for now. Rain gauges looking high, police scanner lots of high water reports. Looks like the eye will come pretty close to us. It’s hard to tell because the eye is changing shape on radar, but seems to be slowing or just not moving real fast right now.

Several reports of gusts to around 90 mph along the mid-TX coast. Even around 80 mph in the western eyewall!

Peak flight level wind was 90 kt, which supported a surface wind of 81 kt. Wouldn't surprise me to see NHC bump the landfall intensity to 75-80 kt in post season analysis.

DT Houston will be in the eye soon and things should settle down after that. That onshore flow has been a monster for sure. Angle of approach was not something we would want if this was a major.

WHen does ACE stop being counted? At landfall?

Don't believe there's a rule for winds counting over land versus over water. It just counts the winds as they are, no matter where they're found. Once winds drop below 35 kt is when ACE will no longer count for Beryl's winds.

The Yucatán and that ULL that was off the Mexican coast saved Houston/Galveston from a MH. Don’t get me wrong Beryl is packing a punch and will probably continue to do so for the rest of the day, but this could’ve gotten a whole lot worse.

Houston Hobby now gusting to 76 mph currently.

The final pass actually recorded flight-level winds of 90kt. Radar velocities corroborated.

Broadbrushed 80-90mph velocities over downtown on HGX radar, some small pockets close to 100. Beam height only 1-1.5kt aloft. What would that translate to as far as surface gusts go?

North of Houston, 68 miles as the crow flies from the Gulf...in a mobile home. Power went out in the last hour. Lots of rain and wind, very gusty...both of which woke me up. Internet access will be sketchy on my phone without wifi. Have a few limbs down, car is ok and the roof on my water well shed is still intact...expecting to lose it as it's just tin. Everybody safe safe.

Thankful Beryl wasn’t as strong as it could have been, especially with more time over water and less dry air intrusions. Still tho, it was impressive how fast the hurricane was able to consolidate before landfall this morning. And Beryl is still packing a punch. For those under the gun, praying for y’all and that you get your power back on if it went out.

Thank you for the correction. 90 kt flight level wind would support 81 kt at the surface, so will be interesting to see how NHC handles that in post season analysis & if there is an upgrade to 75-80 kt at landfall.

Still getting pummeled down here on Galveston Island. Beryl isn’t settling down like it should.

Bolivar completely shut off…no ferry or High Island exit. Entire island shows no power.

those hefty wind gusts being felt right now in Beaumont, I can't imagine what they feel like in Houston right now, Still well together this morning with Beryl riding the coast line, did it just wobble NE?
