NW jog on recon. May be enough to keep strongest inland TS winds W of Houston.

Maybe.

Honestly, even if this come in as a borderline cat 2. The wind damage here will likely cause billions of dollars in damage in Houston since this will be more widespread than the derecho. That's not including any potential from the surge especially as the tide goes up.

And there are still piles of debris and downed trees that haven't been picked up that will be perfect projectiles.

Seems like my local mets are eating a little crow. They were it is just a TS won't be bad and now we see more updates of the storm they are getting push back. I would rather think it could get worse than telling me the is it nothing big here. If they would have said it was going to bad and it was not I would be thank God it wasn't at least I was prepared. SMH.

At the edge of the eye wall now. Getting some small hail. She's definitely trying her best to put on a show right now.

A small partial eye has developed. All indications appear to be that winds have increased a bit more (70 kt is my best guess).

There certainly are. My neighborhood has lots of huge piles of tree debris from the derecho. Some may turn into projectiles. Others will definitely inhibit drainage and increase flooding risk.

The city has only picked up debris piles for people who called 311. There's a house one street over from me that had a huge tree fall across the street blocking everything. Their debris pile is still there. I guess they didn't call 311. Someone told me to call 311 so I did and my pile got picked up. Such a dumb system. The trucks are there. Just pick up the debris! But no. You have to call. So now we've got these random piles that haven't been picked up and will cause problems for everyone in the area when Beryl arrives.

Not a lot of time for that to happen, but anything is possible.

Looking at RadarScope, it looks like she's fanned out quite a bit. Her rain bands look more extensive if that makes sense. Instead of bands, it looks like a giant rain storm now.

Apparently, there was a small tornado in Beaumont tonight. I've seen a bunch of videos and conflicting reports of damage. Here's one. I know it's not much, but hopefully not a sign of what to expect later tonight into the morning.

He’s aware it’s already a Cat 1. He was simply stating it’s likely intensified from 65 to 70 kts.
