Winter Weather Summary
POSTED: November 20, 2003 7:20 a.m.

Snow in the Pacific Northwest and in the Rockies
By Accuweather.com Meteorologist Kathy Francis

A strong trough and cold front has pushed through the Northwest, and lowered the snow levels significantly, so that there was a rain/snow mix even in the city of Portland, Oregon yesterday. This energy will eventually translate into a strong surface storm, that will move into the Plains by Sunday.
Over the next 24 hours or so, new snow will accumulate 3-6 inches in the Washington and Oregon Cascades, and there can be 1-3 inches in the Sierra. Moisture overrunning the colder air will mean 1-3 inches of snow in eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and western Montana. There will also be 1-3 inches in central and western Wyoming, with up to 6 inches over the high peaks. Snow levels will lower late today and tonight into northeast Nevada, and there can be 1-3 inches of snow.
A dramatic change to colder in the Black Hills means there will be an inch or so by tomorrow.
A deepening storm moving out of New England today will wrap some colder air in behind it, so that there may very well be a small, slushy accumulation over the high ground of New York state.
