The GFS shows a 3 day stretch from Aug 26 to Aug 28 with 113, 113 and 114 highs. This is getting ridiculous. Those days look like they will be hard on the grid.

Tomorrow (Thursday) will be hard on the ERCOT grid with reserves below 2,000 MW and demand over 86,000 MW.

Luckily that's in fantasy land. Hopefully we don't see anything close to that.

8-10 days out is long range, but I wouldn’t call it fantasy land. Probably overdoing it some, but honestly it’s not a huge deviation from what it’s showing in the near term.

I'd appreciate you guys not using cockroach in this way. During the Rwanda genocide Tutsis were
labeled as cockroaches, and the ruling Hutus were encouraged to slaughter them.

Wait, what? What does this have to do with weather? And because of this event, no one can use the word cockroach again?

I think he meant that it was used in a very nasty way in the 1990s.

El Niño ? Where? I agree Yukon. I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s unbearable… it’s probably not but it seems worse than 2011.

Depends on where you are, but 2011 encompassed more area into severe drought. This year, while bad in many places, the worst is more confined to central and south TX.

I recall a time when we thought a moderate Tropical Storm was going to give us a drink and cool us down during a blastfurnance

Recall Don 2011?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Don_(2011)

It literally dissipated hitting the coast thanks to the death ridge and dry air.

I’ve never even heard of that event in my life, much less knowing it was in the 1990’s. I don’t even know what that is or how to properly pronounce it.

Or what in the world it has to do with TX weather. That was my point, it was injected into a discussion with absolutely no relevance or context whatsoever.

Yeah! Don went poof. One of the strangest things I've ever seen, weather-wise.

IF you look at the NWS forecast for NTX they have temps ranging from 105 to 109 for the next 7 days. :sun:

Euro has 110F+ this weekend for DFW. Usually more conservative than GFS. The heat dome will likely cause some ~115F readings in the central plains.

Oh, there is a thread on Don here. It was the one of the craziest things I have ever seen in my life, and I have been around awhile.

Yep, I couldn't believe what I was seeing as I was watching it! I thought my feed had gone wonky or that somehow the radar was down. Craziest thing I have ever seen for a tropical system and I've lived on or near the Gulf coast since 1954.

I think the reactions from us ( me included) on that thread were just jaw dropping. We were just dumbfounded. Completely gob smacked.

For you newbies on here...this is the thread on Don...

https://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopi ... 3&t=111230

From the immortal Portastorm..

My final comment on this waste of a system (and a name) ... Don was the sorriest excuse for a tropical storm I have ever seen threaten Texas. Absolutely pitiful!

I've seen better sea-breeze fronts.

Larry C says it won't end until September. Probably more right than not, unfortunately.

The Rwanda Genocide:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-26875506

The term "cockroach" is still used publicly in various places around the world to terrorize disfavored ethnic groups. It's as offensive as the "N" word to many of us with east African roots. "Hotel Rwanda" is a good film about this. That's the last I will say on this subject.
