Need a big snow event this winter for the South! I wanted to see at least a flurry this past winter in Starkville and all I got was rain.

We’re in the same boat. Last snowfall here was during Uri and since then we’ve only had ice or sleet.
If it ain’t blizzarding and I can’t blast Jingle Bells by the time it’s September I call winter cancel

Cold PDO El Nino, what Texas winter weather fan doesn't like those? . Basically guaranteed snow of all the ENSO events!

I think it's been a while since we have seen -pdo with El niño. Hopefully we will have a few winter weather opportunities this winter.

Sort of winter weather yesterday. High didn't even reach 100, only 98-99.

I find it quite interesting that people are using 1899 as a good analog year for this years hurricane season….
1951 is also being used as well which was also pretty interesting.

It's the wrong 1899. Feb 1899 outbreak was during an outgoing La Nina. 2nd half the year was transitioning to El Nino, so comparison is winter of 1899-1900 vs 1898-1899.

Gotcha. I was wondering about that cuz I thought it wasn’t possible to get really cold during an El Niño.

I’m seeing some long-range winter forecasts and it looks like a lot of them are seeing a big winter east of the Mississippi with just an ok winter around here. From what I’m seeing for Texas right now, it looks like slightly below normal temperatures with slightly above average precipitation. Reeks of +PNA.

I never expect to see snow in SE TX, but here in Starkville I would like to at least one time while I'm a student here at State. Last winter wasn't anything really significant except for that one severe freeze back in December. After that, the coldest it got was only about 20. Cold enough though.

It’s sad I’ve been trying to find different winter forecasts already for the past month. Winter can’t get here fast enough.

Re: Texas Winter 2023-2024
That 60s and rain this morning definitely got me in the mood thats for sure there was a bit of a crisp feel to the air if you were out early enough. I started working mornings a lot more lately with the heat and yeah it paid off today
My theory up here anyway is it can't be any worse than last year.. I mean besides some sleet at the end of January January and February was a total fail. Tulsa finished with 2.0 inches and since 2000 only two winters have been worse than that

Could southeast TX see a prolific snowstorm this winter? I was thinking it could be a possibility if we get a good coastal low to develop with these crazy high Gulf waters.

It's hard to say since we still have to get through the peak of hurricane season. The Gulf could cool substantially if we see enough tropical systems plow through and start seeing more rain. Would need to see at least a couple major hurricanes for that to happen though plus fairly strong cold fronts.

Hello ntxw. How many different analogs have a -pdo and an intense El niño during winter and what were their outcomes?
Thanks in advance
