I think the reason the gfs has backed off on cooler temps in comparison to the cooler gefs is because of its Caribbean TC bias. Gfs has consistently been trying to a pull tc northward into the gulf and landfall it east of Texas, pumping the ridge to the west over us. This results in temps of 105-110 every day over much of Texas after 7/2, in comparison to the gefs’s depiction of mid 90s for the same period

I’m not sure I could get acclimated to extreme cold or heat tbh. I’ve lived in southeast Texas my entire life and have had outside jobs for most of it and still dread the heat but yet at the same time when it’s in the 30’s outside I’m freezing my nuts off and almost good for nothing lol

Seriously I am becoming more heat intolerant as I get older and I just turned 49. DFW weather is great eight months out of the year but the four that aren't great knock me out. I despise enough to look for other cities once my daughter is on her own. I freakin hate summer because it is becoming a health issue for me unfortunately.

Yeah I've found myself hating both extremes now. I mean in December when it was 5 degrees here at lunchtime with 30 mph winds that was not remotely fun in any way(same thing at some point in February 2021). Like it didn't even matter that it snowed it was just too cold

It's really made me realize(especially the constant winter wind here) that I don't want to live up north

Exactly I've missed that the last couple years really. I mean we had the perfect setup in late January and then it fell apart at the last second because it was one degree too warm aloft. Literally the Christmas cold was the peak of winter here which was plain sad considering we average 9 inches a year

My wife has a heat allergy or that’s what we call it. She can’t sweat hardly and get bumps from heat. We have talked about moving to a colder climate like Maine or something, but it’s TOO snowy. Lol. Like snow but not bone-frigid cold all winter.

Kansas would work except teaching pay stinks and it can get just as hot at times. But with more relief.

Who knows. Next house (who knows when that will be with interest rates, high prices etc.), I’m setting aside money for a pool. The HOA pool is just not as convenient.

Anyway, hope some cooling is on the agenda next week.

I am not sure why I didn't think of posting here this past weekend.

My best friend had his house his by something 2 miles north of Rotan, Texas on Wednesday evening. His roof was taken off of his house, and now has skylights in his bedroom, kitchen and laundry room. He will likely have to rebuild.

For those of you who storm chase or were watching the weather go down that night, WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT? Was it a tornado? Was it straight-line winds? What? Thank God he wasn't there when it happened because if he had been, something awful might have happened to him.

On a personal note, he received a phone call on his cell phone. He has his home phone forwarded to his cell. His phone rang at 10:15pm. That person left a message that a storm was coming and that he should seek cover immediately. He was asleep 250 miles away and didn't hear the phone ring. He didn't pay attention to anything until the security company called to say that his window broke in his house. That's when he started getting the tornado warnings. Those warnings didn't go off for him until 10:59PM. A random stranger/storm chaser just picked up the phone and started calling numbers in Rotan and Roby to warn people that the storm was coming. Thank you to anyone who does that. That was freaking cool.

Anyway..any info y'all can provide would be great.

EPS cluster analysis is showing the potential for a heavy rain event across NTX in the July 7-9th timeframe. Would be welcome, IMBY, with local ponds going dry. However, like 2 miles from here, on the other side of the lake, ponds are overflowing

Just looked up the storm reports on the SPC website of 06/21/23 (https://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/230621_rpts.html)
Several straightline wind reports for Fischer county, and Rotan specifically, including a sustained wind of 83mph with gusts to 95mph. Not surprising there was damage. The storms in that area were responsible for the Matador ef3 and produced a lot of damaging straightline winds even during times when a tornado wasn’t on the ground.
