It could tank the AO


Correct and really need it to tank, particularly this time of year, in order to get the Arctic Cold far enough south. Without it, it may stay bottled up across the NW US into Canada

I’m mainly interested to see how this will impact hurricane season. Probably another boring season for the Texas Gulf Coast.

Texas survived the 3-yr Nina and didn't dry up and blow away!

Boring hurricane seasons are wonderful. We’ve had enough lately over here in Louisiana.


Yeah, like after 8 of them in 3 years? They deserve a break from this!

I would agree we have been very fortunate! For as bad as last summer was, we did not experience the decadal dry spells/drought we did back in 08-2013 in the last multi stretch Nina/-PDO period.

For the most part this is true. A large part of the Hill Country is still in the worst level of drought. And SA just experienced the 2nd driest year on record. Much of the state is in much better shape, but we could really use a wet year here!

And El Nino could actually have the opposite effect.Could allow a weakness to settle over the state this summer.While in a La Nina you're more likely to have a blocking death ridge over the state.

All things considered, it could have been much worse. 2023 already trending in a much better direction through the first part of February as far as rain goes!

I doubt Louisiana will ever catch a break from tc’s. LA is a magnet for them.
