I'm sorry for your loss. Watching your posts and preparations in the last few days was like a nightmare unfolding right in front of our eyes, and you were one of the first that sniffed out the southward trend and what it really meant for Sanibel. So sorry that everything ended up in the worst way possible.

There is no doubt this will be the costliest hurricane in Florida history.

Irma?

It's going to be at least as devastating as Irma, probably more so. Just a horrible situation. My area has lost power.

Thank you mods for keeping up my constructive criticism on the NHC. They truly did a very good job with the meteorology. A storm traveling at an oblique angle to a coastline is a nightmare to message.

It is undeniable in hindsight that knowing what you know now Lee County should’ve had evacuations on Sunday and they should’ve been under hurricane watches from the start.

I just can share so many screenshots of foolish idiots who do not know the meaning of the word mandatory and I know many paid the ultimate price. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone I know personally died. This was just very underprepared for in hindsight and the Irma near miss made this 1000x worse. Pray for SWFL. I haven’t heard from my loved one in 18 hours.

Irma was weaker and moved faster; Ian was stronger and dumped more rain. Surge was worse too.

I am so, so sorry.

Most of us are strangers here, I know, but I feel like many of us have gotten to know each other over the years and become what I call “annual friends”. You are one of those folks and I am genuinely sorry, my friend.

I’m so sorry to hear about Sanibel’s loss.

And now Ian is forecast to become a hurricane again. Just great…

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.
