A cold time at the ole ballgame tonight!!

#1 Postby WEATHER53 » Fri Nov 14, 2003 12:28 am

Just got back from Md-UVA game, Terps win 27-17 (win last two and should get a major bowl bid) temps in upper 30's, winds 25-35 all game, wind chill mid 20's. Unlike most cold events you are not skiing, nor walking, nor shoveling snow, nor doing anything that creates any body heat ;you are just sitting and no matter how much you bundle up with the lack of sun and lack of activity, you become very cold. I am an avid winter outdoors person, know how to dress right and rarely get really cold but two of the top 10 all time "I am cold" events have been football games and tonight was one. It has been a long time since I can remember cold frontal passage winds that stayed 30mph+ for 18+ hours, a real testimony to this extraordinary storm which was preceeded by extraordinary high pressure.

I don't think I would have enjoyed sitting outside in the cold and wind for 3 hours last night, but kudos to you for sticking it out. It has been very windy (sustained mostly above 20 MPH with gusts regularly past 35 MPH) for over 24 hours. A very long duration wind event indeed.
