The eye is clearing out rapidly. The only thing that might slow it down for the coming hours is that it is still recovering from its landfall. But purely based on IR/VIS images I would think we're looking at an (almost) MH already.

Well, I thought like why not checking the latest satellite imagery before going to sleep (it's almost midnight here), but good Lord...

It still looked good earlier today when it was passing over the DR, but now...

Hmm, not sure if it'll become that powerful as there haven't been any recorded Cat 5s at that latitude, let alone in that region of the ocean at least in historical records. But a solid Cat 4? Certainly plausible.

Also, Turks and Caicos better be prepared, as this storm is expected to come dangerously close.

We have never had subtropics as warm as they are now.

For all the underperforming (potential) storms earlier this season, Fiona is the exact opposite. I can't think of any Atlantic storm in recent memory that survived a landfall, especially such a long one, as well as Fiona and even started RI (which I think is happening right now) directly afterwards. At least since I actively started tracking hurricane seasons in 2016. Ida might be the only other recent case I can think of, but even that one took quite some damage and needed 16 hours before intensifying again. Or maybe Laura, even though it was much weaker at its first landfall than Fiona.

It's been a while since a storm, that was already a hurricane, began RI'ing right after departing from a long landfall. Sandy in 2012 RI'd after leaving Jamaica up to Cuba, but it was only over Jamaica for about 3 hours.

Raw T# have reached 5.7 in the 2150z ADT fix. Corresponds to 107 kt / 955 mb. This ADT fix is probably already outdated since it currently looks even better than at 2150z. Fiona really is doing all she can to pull attention back from the future Gaston thread to here.

NOAA3 is now inside Fiona, another Recon plane (NOAA2) is on the way there.

I am going to guess flight level and smrf winds that justify 95 knots for the next advisory. The eyewall screams 115-125 knots but the eye is quite warm still and the deeper convection is fairly new that has wrapped around the eye...So winds probably haven't gotten mixed down yet. Pressure 964mb
