Officials Believe Police Shipment Was Stolen

POSTED: 11:40 a.m. EST November 11, 2003

WASHINGTON -- Officials say a nationwide search has begun for a shipment of 50 badges that was headed to the Pentagon Police Department. Authorities say the shipment includes badges, badge holders and hat insignias.

The nationwide alert was put out by the Office of Homeland Security, and even though officials have no reason to believe that terrorists were involved in the theft of the Pentagon badges, the national alert is an indication of the urgency behind the search.

Law enforcement agencies in the United States have been advised by the Department of Homeland Security to use extra caution in securing vehicles, badges, uniforms and other items.

Department patches are one thing...having all the "regulation" components is much tougher to do, since (at least here) "cop shops" demand I.D. or department purchase orders, and they change those periodically to prevent counterfeiting.

Badges can only be had by purchase order from a department official, and they are EXPENSIVE. Some, like STL MPD, have very distinctive shields that can't be obtained at all (and STL shields are HUGE, comparatively speaking).

Blazin' Saddles was where that exact quote was first spoken. But it was a satirical twist on a similar quote in Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Not badges, Streetsoldier.......cloth patches that are sewn to a uniform.......just go to eBay and type in your city (or the largest one you're near).....it may take a while to scroll thru all items listed, but you WILL find these! ................p

Pam,

I know about the patches...my point was that they are useless, except as collector's items, without a correct uniform (and all that goes with it).
