Severe Thunderstorm Watch posted for my area

#1 Postby tomboudreau » Wed Nov 12, 2003 7:42 pm

The Storm Prediction Center has put all of Western PA, the panhandle of WV, extreme eastern OH, and western NY under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 PM tonight. Currently, we have south winds in the 10 to 15 mile per hour range by judging the flag outside the window. The temp is now up to 60 degrees. I would expect the storms to begin moving in in the next couple of hours. We are also under wind advisory through tomorrow for winds of 20 to 35 miles per hour with gusts to over 50. And if this isnt enough...we could get our first accumulating snows tomorrow with the forecast of 2 to 5 inches possible by tomorrow night. Its going to be a rough 24 to 36 hour period. I will update as conditions warrant this evening and as long as we keep power.

Just a quick update before the power goes tonight...it has been flickering for the last 30 minutes to 45 minutes. We are currently under a severe thunderstorm warning. The worse of the storms is to my north right now. There is another small cluster directly to my west and I am expecting it here within the next 10 to 15 minutes. The rain is coming down at an angle right now. I can hear it hit the window to the office. I havent seen any lightning nor hear any thunder...but I am expecting that to change soon. This will most likely be my last update for the night. Will update in the morning when I get to work. One more thing...NWS has upgraded our wind advisory to a high wind warning now. They are calling for sustanted winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour with gusts to 60 or higher tomorrow.

Okay..that was fun...as I was writing this, the power did in fact go out. Thank goodness for UPSes. The squall line is now through the area. The winds have shifted from the south south west to now a more westerly direction. Its going to be a nasty night. I will provide a full update in the morning.
