Snow/Severe weather Today into Tomorrow!

#1 Postby Guest » Wed Nov 12, 2003 9:43 am

Believe it or not some places in the next 24hrs may be seeing severe weather and then snow! Looks like a powerfull storm is in the developing stages up in the great lakes dragging a very strong coldfront to the south of it which later on today could bring the threat for severe storms into the lower lakes and upper Ohio valley with the threats being Tornadoes and high winds and even large hail...............SPC (Storm Prediction center) has placed alot of these areas which include most of Ohio, Western PA, Eastern Mich in a moderate threat for severe weather which is highly unusuall for this time of year all though not unheard of as was the case a little over a year ago when these same areas got hit hard with severe weather including a F4 tornado in Van Wert, OH.............All the dynamics are there again today for a simular event..................Then later this evening and into the overnight hours as the front pushes towards the eastcoast Cold air will rapidly make its way into the same areas expecting the severe weather this afternoon changing rain over to snow and in some of the more favored Lake areas Near blizzard conditions may be had by tomorrow morning when you leave for work especially in the UP of Michigan and northern Lower Michigan as well with some places getting up to a foot of snow........Expect more in the order of 3-6 off of Erie and in Western NY off of Lake Ontario could be up to a foot of snow by Friday!...............Check back in for further updates throughout the day (Or untill i get knocked off of here because im in these threats)....................Expect it to be a cold and very windy day on Thursday from the Lakes/Ohio Valley over to the Mid Atlantic and NE with snow continuing near the lakes and as well in Northern New England from the wrap around moisture and Lake effect..................

the wx here will be going downhill next 45 minutes...storms are on the approach from the west...training is occurring, a flood warning was issued in Adams Co., OH (about 50 miles east of here), and a wind adv is in effect for the Cincinnati tri state...I will attempt to update as possible here in Northern KY...

Hey Jeremy,

Are you located near Louisville? Just curios since I grew up there. Definitely looks a bit stormy south of there right now!

I'm in Florence, about 10 miles out of Cincinnati...it definitely is bad near here...heavy rain is just west of Florence, as seen here:

King, Jeremy, you all stay safe. My local NWS is calling for a slight chance of severe weather (Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, etc).

We at the eastern end of Lake Erie are also under a Coastal Flood Warning, High Wind Warning and also the possibility of anywhere from 1-12 inches of snow. I have heard different people calling for different amounts, depending on where the snow squalls hit and how hard.

We're getting pounded around pretty good here today. 60-100km/hr winds with up to 25 cm's of snow tonight. Hard to believe it was 15º/C here yesterday.

This is a nasty first snowfall. We've got power out all over the place, trees down, whiteouts, closed highways, closed schools, it's nasty.

We're getting pounded here, but not quite as bad. Power is still on. But lots of trees are down. The water from the Lake is blowing across NY 5, very hard. We have light snow starting as well. To my SW, they have white out conditions on stretches of US 219. Some of the trees down are like 18 inches in diameter, but you can see they didn't have a very deep root system. Looking for the wind to start dying down and the snow to pick up soon.

Thanks. We've lost power about 5 times today. The wind is really nasty.

We do have quite a number of local roads closed.

A quick summary of today's events in and around my area-

-Sports Dome Collapses in Oswego County

-Roof Blown OffBruegger's Bagels in Syracuse

-Oswego Cell Phone Tower Crashes at City Fire Station

This picture was taken about 20-30 miles south of me. We haven't really had any snow sticking in Watertown, even though the NWS called for 2-5 inches today.

Cell tower that collapsed hit an emergency vehicle.

SW 33 G 57 Wind at 8:56 am in Watertown from the NWS website.
