Over the past 12 years (1992-2003), the average date of the first freeze at DCA has been 11/14. The earliest was 10/20 in 1992; the latest was 12/22 in 2001. This year's date of 11/10 is slightly earlier than the recent average.
IAD
Over the past 12 years (1992-2003), the average date of the first freeze at IAD has been 10/10. The earliest was 10/01 in 1993; the latest was 10/31 in 2002. This year's date of 10/03 is one week earlier than the recent average.
Earliest on record at DCA is 10/10/1895.
Earliest on record at IAD is 9/24/1974.
Note that last year's first freeze dates were 11/27 at DCA and 10/31 at IAD.
Conclusion? Date of first freeze probably means nothing.
