Now that Sam has organized its convection(hence the slightly increasing cloud top temps) its convection is getting colder and stronger again these past few frames IMHO.
Edit: On one minute imagery that is. Also note the triple banding in the northern semicircle!

Seems like there's a small break in the NW quad, but all other quadrants have convection cooling again. There's still some lightning in the eyewall, so I think Sam is not done intensifying yet.

I think this storm might be my new picture for my profile.

Sometimes one quadrant in this super-symmetrical storms is a little warmer than the rest and breaks an otherwise perfect W or B ring. IIRC, Felicia has a similar warm quadrant. This doesn’t mean Sam has leveled off or is weakening.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Very interested to see what the HH's find. Sam reminds me of Jose in 2017.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Looks like the NW side is eroding, just in time for recon to get there. If it was a category 5, we probably will never know at this point because I seriously doubt recon is going to find category 5 strength winds now.

I think the HH will find a Cat 5 easy, maybe 155 Kts., and pressure around 925.

It's definitely strong, but not 180-mph levels of strong. My personal guess is 125-130 knots (145-150 mph) and pressure in the mid-to-high 930s.

Not at all from what I can tell. Despite a little warming the cdo is still very symmetrical, and the eye seems to be continuing to warm. I don’t think it’s a cat5 yet, but no reason to say it’s not on its way. These things breathe and fluctuate, I bet they’ll find this at about 150mph

Holding steady at T6.5 after being T7.0 for a frame or two. It looks like one of those low latitude EPAC Category 4’s we see near 125W. Probably around 130-135 knots but Recon could conceivably find a Category 5.

I'm thinking Sam is around 125-130kts right now, holding steady for the last couple hours imo. If the eye warms more and gets over 20C, it might be close to Cat 5, but if we're being completely honest it's very rare to see a Cat 5 in this part of the MDR, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it peak just below Cat 5 strength.
