Sam is reaching for CAT 5. If it can maintain a CMG then it will get there.

Just in time for the visit from Miss Piggy in a few hours.

This storm is the kind of storm we have been waiting to see and have not gotten arguably since Irma. A powerful MDR Cape Verde system traversing through the deep tropics is a beautiful sight to behold.

I hope this gets to a cat 5 and goes OTS, I love tracking these MDR majors that stay strong for many days. I don't think we have had an MDR beast like this since the Irma/Jose/Maria combo. Maybe Lorenzo but that storm was so unusual that I'm not sure it fits the bill.

Lorenzo was not a deep tropics system imo. Neither did it hold a powerful intensity like Sam is forecast to do.

Considering it’s first peak was below 20N and it’s origns, it absolutely was a deep tropical system and given it wracked up 31 ACE units, was certainly a long tracker.

Re: ATL: SAM - Hurricane - Discussion

Eye is literally .1 degrees short of WMG needed for T7.0.

Lots of lightning in the eyewall over the last hour or so. I can’t wait for recon to sample Sam later this afternoon/early evening. My best guess is a 120-125 kt/950-945mb Cat 4.

I misspoke(I was wrong), Lorenzo was a deep tropics system. However it did not stay there for very long. Also Sam looks more appealing IMO like Irma did. Irma was a gorgeous storm.

Some of those outer bands might try to wrap around into an outer eyewall, but so far the inner eyewall is dominant with no EWRC likely within the next 6 hours or so.

I think right now Hugo is the best comparison to Sam.
