I think we would need more info about the height and setting (e.g. positioning on the ship) of that ship anemometer to put too much stock into it. That video from Port Fuchon is quite impressive, but then again anything over 100 mph sustained looks very similar (i.e. crazy), whether it is 120 or 150 mph. Possibly could look at damage there, but I wonder how many structures survived the surge (it is a big refining area so I imagine there are at least some sturdily built and elevated structures).

Some of this footage is just about as bad as I have seen in any storm. Does anyone know if they have been able to make contact with Grand Isle? Last I heard it was no

I think it's possible it might too. You also gotta remember that Ida retained its strength due to the brown ocean effect which is why it stayed over 130mph winds for 4+ hours over "land". It's very tough for hurricanes to reach pass that threshold of 155mph winds to get cat 5 status but I could see it happen

I want to give a shout out to all the forecasters who saw this coming almost 10 days ago when it was just a wave in the Eastern Caribbean. While no one could predict how strong it would get back then, they were saying it could be bad even then. So hats off to the guys at the NHC for their excellent forecasting. I don't think we thank them nearly as much as they deserve.

Yeah they nailed the intensity forecast days before it hit calling for rapid intensification and 140mph sustained winds at landfall even when some people doubted them.

I heard on the news maybe 30 mins ago they were on the phone with emergency management and they were as of yet unable to contact Grand Isle. They were sending in boats because that is the only way to access the area, and I would imagine since it is on the ocean the boat would have to be substantial. They also mentioned the problem of debris in the water. That video if I were to guess looks like it was filmed fairly early in the storm seeing some of the footage "upstream" from there (and that it is a retweet from Braintree MA)

Snapchat’s map feature is great for finding current amateur video when a storm is making landfall.

Looks like on satellite, that a feeder band is approaching the Florida panhandle region?...

Agreed. I debated whether to post it and decided to do so with the "unconfirmed" disclaimer. It's the only footage I found, not verified and from an unlikely source. All of that should be taken into account.
