As I posted earlier, if you are in an evacuation zone, you need to leave.

If I lived in New Orleans, I personally would not be staying for this one. Not just the storm itself - but the aftermath is going to be horrendous.

No way I’d stay for this one. There’s such a thing as tempting fate.

Looks like Cuba isn't doing anything to it. Should be well on it's way to 130kt+ at this point

Indeed Ida hasn't looked any better before now on radar and is over land.

I just had to convince my friends in Belle Chase to come to Galveston, there's a lot not leaving.

What’s interesting to me is, that convective burst is not directly over the center, it’s just to the west and is probably going to be rotated to the southwest. This would put the burst upshear relative to the eye, protecting it. This kind of asymmetrical convective structure is the same phenomenon that allowed Michael to strengthen in a less than ideal environment for will probably make Ida more durable if it maintains this structure.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

The Pinar del Rio tobacco fields are taking a beating.
I can't watch this.

The terrain in that part of Cuba certainly isn’t going to do much inhibiting. Does anyone know if there is a lot of marshland over that part of the island? AFAIK it’s just mostly flat and narrow.

Janie2006 wrote:There is absolutely no reason to think that metro New Orleans is in any way, shape, or form out of the woods. If anything, it’s in the hot seat. In any case as currently forecasted, New Orleans is in the NW quadrant. The only question in my mind at this point is whether it catches part of the eyewall.

Indeed, NOLA is in the crosshairs. Ida could be another Katrina only passing west of the city instead of east of the city. I would not be surprised if Ida's wind field expands like Katrina's did and with it an even higher storm surge than currently forecast. If I were living on the south shore of Lake P I'd evacuate ASAP. New Orleans is not the place to ride out a major hurricane. 1500+ souls were lost in the New Orleans area with Katrina, lets not have that happen again......MGC

Northern eyewall being disrupted by what mountain ranges there are on the north coast.

There are some hills inland so it's not all flat. Storms do take a pause after passing Western Cuba but it's definitely not a cyclone killer in anyway

Can't tell for sure because there's a lot of data missing to the North
