One thing we must remember about the Northeast: it takes a lot less than hurricane force to cause major tree and power line damage, especially when saturated and trees are in full leaf.
Nowhere away from the immediate coast had a gust to hurricane force in Irene, yet it knocked out power to about 6 million customers all the way to Canada.

The forum is dominated by people on the gulf coast and Florida so they don't really care lol. The people on americanwx care more about it so try there. The New England forums thread is the one that's most active though so check the Henri thread there.
Not true at all. We do care but we need to let people from your area have the floor since it's not affecting us directly. There are also some like me who lost everything last year and just got my slab poured this week due to massive labor shortages, Covid and material shortages so we are still kind of busy trying to pull our lives together. DH is a public adjuster and just got notice he is being deployed for New England-New York for 30 days so my world just got flipped upside down again although I am so grateful he is going up there to help people in need. Having someone like him will be a blessing because we're living through it now and he KNOWS what your community is going through from a very personal level.

It is looking more like Long Island is going to take a direct landfall and the intensity may surprise a lot of folks.

Agreed. Even with Sandy, the traffic dropped after it got north of about 28-30 degrees latitude. Most of us are in the Gulf Coast and Florida. I used to live up in that part of the world, but moved south in 2016.

I am living in Brooklyn right now. The bridges into the city mentioned a tropical storm warning for tomorrow, even though the city is only under a tropical storm watch. There doesn’t seem to be much preparation in the city at this point, with a bike race still scheduled for Sunday.

We need to hope the track doesn't shift west. If the track moves west and flooding becomes a threat, they would have to shut the transit system down probably by early tomorrow evening...not a lot of time to prepare.

They may cancel that race tomorrow…

With it likely only being a tropical storm in New York, I don’t think they would shut down the transit system until tropical storm force winds start. As it stands, the national weather service is only predicting peak wind gusts of 25 mph in the city.
BTW, the bike tour typically gets 32,000 cyclists. https://brooklyneagle.com/articles/2021/08/19/five-boro-bike-tour-is-on-for-now-but-with-added-precautions/

This is typical of the people on this site. They only care about Florida. Happens to us here in NC too the just drop off the site.

People usually care more about areas they live in. That's just human nature 101. THis forum happens to have a large proportion of members from the South. That's all. EIther way I always keep tabs on Atlantic Basin systems no matter where they are. I have family and friends from the Tri State area up there so my texts have been heavy the past 24 hours!

I was all the way in south central PA and even I lost power from Irene lol but that was mainly due to the fact it had a very large windfield due to it weakening from a category 3. I had 50mph sustained winds in Irene and even that was kinda crazy. If you think about it when severe thunderstorms hit they bring in 40-70mph gusts so sustained is a whole other beast. There's gonna be a ton who lose power

We don't get hurricanes in Atlanta...I am just a weather geek. That's why I'm here

I’d say between midnight and 4am this will be fully aligned and we’re off to the races

Henri just needs a little bit more time to get stacked after that we should see some solid strengthening.

Recon looks like they got a solid center fix this pass around 997mb...no dropsonde yet, but did get a clean wind shift so this is pretty much stacked now
On WV imagery you can almost see the pocket forming that Henri will move into setting up
