Major inflow being pulled in from the NE on the front side of that Birmingham storm. Debris ball up to 66dbz. Not good

In Dixie Alley, there are too many trees combined with low-level storm modes & the storms also move very fast . . .

That town looks like it’s a couple minutes from being wiped off the map...

It just bent right at the last minute, missing the center of the town to the south. Couldn’t possibly be closer call than that, and it still is probably pretty bad there

It might not have even needed to. I wonder if ground scouring or tree damage will be enough to confirm, given how long it exceeded 200mph g2g shear...

Should also add, this tornado is likely stronger than currently depicted on radar and may not have weakened much if at all since peak depiction. Terrain and proximity to the radar site are likely causing truncation
Edit: never mind, the cell to the south is likely causing interference and dampening the circulation

Re: Great Plains, Midwest, & Deep South Storm Season 2021
James Spann is an Alabama and a national treasure. If there was a purple heart for meteorologists, he earned one today. His home took a hit from one of the earlier tornadoes. He stepped off camera for a few minutes, made sure that his wife was ok, got back on camera and kept going. Much respect for Mr. Spann.
