Please no more precipitation for Austin. Just let it stay away! Have had enough already. Glad it looks like for the most part we won't have too much but none would be better.

Let's see what March brings. You never know!! :D

GEFS has the cold up north come March 1. It is currently bleeding it off into the NE.

Great news, looks like the Winter Storm Warning for the Austin metro has been removed. Pretty much the best news all week!

After a long day with no power, we finally have the power back on and the heat running. It's been a steady 34F here for hours with drizzle. I am very thankful it's not icing again.

So can someone post this to thread. I'm going to buying a generator this time around. No power in the cold, or anytime, is not fun.

I’m on hour 42 straight with no power. I have running water and hot water though.

Yep! We got up to 36 today, holding tight at 34 right now. We got really lucky not getting that extra icing today.

For the Houston area - came out at about 6PM earlier.

https://info.centerpointenergy.com/pdf/ ... -FINAL.pdf

Houston – Feb. 17, 2021 – The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has notified
CenterPoint Energy of additional power generation capacity. As more power generation is
available, the company is prepared to re-energize portions of the electric system that have been
without power. During the service restoration process, CenterPoint Energy urges customers who
have electric and/or natural gas service to immediately conserve electricity and natural gas over
the next six hours, until midnight.

“This is an unprecedented situation for our communities in that the demand for electric and
natural gas reached record levels simultaneously,” said Kenny Mercado, CenterPoint Energy’s
Executive Vice President, Electric Utility. “We are ready to restore service to our customers.
Introducing this demand too rapidly could result in additional service interruptions and safety
risks for both electric and natural gas customers.”

“Let’s come together and help our neighbors who have been without power for an extended
period of time,” said Scott Doyle, CenterPoint Energy’s Executive Vice President, Natural Gas
Distribution. “This in an immediate call to action for our customers.”

Far too early. But Bubba and others have made note that patterns like these tend to bring some late season cold.

Seasonal favorability says consistent patterns are hard to get rid of. The coldest air in the Northern Hemisphere is still churning in Northern Canada. Some ensembles do show possible buckle and allowing it to spill southward again. It's not going to be something like what we just had, but a decent cold snap late Feb or early March is very reasonable.

It may have to come via the Pacific vs the Atlantic side though.

Well something to watch for sure. Issue is will things be back to normal by then? May not be as strong but when you are already beat down does not take much to knock you out.

This outbreak:

Broke an almost 6 year drought of winter storms, the longest since records began.
Broke a 25 year gap of single digit temps at DFW.
The coldest low in 72 years at DFW.
Challenged the 295 hours below freezing record from 1983.

If this outbreak had occurred in any of the for-mentioned years it would have been worse. The metro area has exploded in population since those years. The UHI would not have been as big as a factor.

I had -8 out here, shattering the record of coldest temp I’ve experienced since moving here over 11 years ago. Previous record was 6.

Another really remarkable highlight for DFW...it was the coldest 3 day stretch in recorded history - 3 day average temp of 10.8 F, breaking the 1983 record of 11.7 F !! Still haven’t processed in all but from this boards perspective, it’s been an enjoyable community to follow this once in a generation event with...

I was having a discussion yesterday about "Storm 2" and it was unclear if Storm 2 was last night or if that was Sunday night or what since we're onto 4 or 5 of them now this week... and I realized that I don't hate The Weather Channel's winter storm names as much as I thought I did.

Buy the biggest you can afford...the little 2000 watt we have is not enough....
But at least we had it...it would run a small room heater tv and dvd that was it.
And buy 2x the amount of gas you think you will need

I was 9 in 1983 and lived in Dville and remember sleeping in front of the fireplace because we lost power. Now I live in Coppell and my son is 9 and we have been sleeping in front of the fireplace without power. Circle of life. LOL
