I haven’t seen anything that would have me stake my reputation on DFW snow and it’s not even my livelihood.

Right on me in Victoria ya right!!! Only happened once in my 33 yrs and it was 2004 Christmas Eve! Best Christmas ever!

Does anyone really believe these models???

Not me. Curious how it trends tomorrow but really Thursday is the first critical day in my opinion.

Looking at the 18Z Euro and 0Z GFS for KAUS, the column looks to cool quite nicely between now and Saturday night. Only time will tell where the energy aligns with the sufficiently cold and moist air.





Looking at the ensemble means it sure looks like someone in the Lone Star State will see some flakes this weekend. Latitude will be a big influence on totals, but I think we all would be happy to just see some flakes fall.

As always it will be fun watching the models do their thing and see how meteorologists play their cards.

Still blanks DFW but it did seem to setup better if you look at the frames the precip is much more expansive

Saw WUnderground app has snow for Sunday night for me. Today's the day I am going to start really studying this system. By tomorrow I believe we will have a good idea of what this system is going to do. My initial guess is the bullseye will be north of I-20 though.

Ok, so I'm lost. FWD NWS is not impressed with this weekend's system. Sounds like version 2.0 of the last cold rain we just had.

From all the various posts here the consensus is the system is going to go north and DFW is going to get it?

I've seen so many model posts and people pulling for this area or that part of Texas I'm lost. Texas is a big state, as we all know, so from the pics I've seen and what NWS I'm thinking DFW will miss out once again?

What am I missing? I'm also back at work this week so my attention is not what it was over over the break

Until i can figure out how to fix this, here is the link.

The sounding is a sounding of Sugar Land, or near it. Notice how the moist layer starts up near the 500mb layer and is past the 900 mb layer. Showing snow falling in the entire column. Ground temps at 39F. Now, we have had a very similar situation to this in Dec 2017. I encourage you guys to check it out. Exact same situation, and they predicted rain up until the day of. By looking at the sounding for my area, i was able to determine that snow would be falling, not rain.

Still too early to tell...system is still in the Northern Pacific, south of the Aleutians.

Currently, FWD & Austin are going cold rain and San Angelo and offices farther west & north are mentioning winter weather. They will update forecast accordingly and usually don't make big cycle-to-cycle jumps.

The Austin/San Antonio Forecast Office (EWX) has updated to a Rain/Snow mix now in the Hill Country so that is a change from their previous forecast yesterday afternoon when it was a "cold rain". They mentioned higher probabilities from the Euro ENS in their overnight discussion.

Looks like some big changes coming to the 12z GFS. Now to see if it makes any difference at the surface.
