Meet Iota, the STRONGEST storm of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season in terms of wind speed....already.

Likely already the strongest in all categories.

I'd say with an update like that without recon, the NHC likely fully expects a Cat 5...

NHC just assessed Iota as close to Cat5 as they could go while waiting for recon to confirm anything stronger.

Iota is the most perfect looking hurricane I have ever seen....I feel bad saying that, because of what the storm has in store for CA....I mean the people of CA no disrespect by saying how perfect Iota looks, I'm sure they will disagree, and my heart and my mind are with them...with Iota fixin to arrive...I hope they are all safe....

Most anticipated recon since the anticlimactic one into Eta just two weeks ago.

Odds are the intensification rate has slowed somewhat, because 10.8 mb/hr from the last pass until now would put Iota at 865-870 mbar. That’s not happening. However, even if it dropped by half, we would be dealing with a system comparable in intensity to Maria, Mitch, and Katrina....on NOVEMBER 16th. What the absolute hell, 2020?!

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I'll go a bit conservative and go with 916mb/140kt.

There has not been any communications with the island of Providencia since 2 AM, this was their plead to their residents to shelter right after Iota was upgraded to Cat 4.

I said a couple hours ago I expected 908mb/150-155kts for the first pass. I'm going all in on 155kts now. I do think there's a chance it's already sub-900 though.

It's officially a high-end CAT4. No where near low end
