May stall.

A deep system like this will head more SW influenced more by the 500MB high over the Gulf, which is exactly what is happening.

Patricia'15 would be more anticipated I'd argue.

If it stalls, waters in the region should be deep enough to avoid immediate upwelling

So recent microwave imagery suggests EWRC is very unlikely to happen before recon arrives as the core is extremely well dense and organized. This is further backed up by lightning around the center and increasing Cold Cloud Tops around the center in the CDO.
In Layman’s terms, recon will find a MONSTER!

Think the recon will find sub 930 when the arrival and might even be below 900 when they leave

If steering currents are weak - what is the mechanism that will steer it north - and when?

For sure. Also ADT has this @ 6.2 with SAB @ 6.0. Good opportunity to see how it verifies with real time recon.

God be with that recon flight. This will definitely be the biggest test of the year so far for them. Rough ride ahead.
