The NHC could go with 968-970 mbar and 100 kt for the 5pm update. It seems like they’re slowly working their way up to MH intensity, as the recon passes and dropsondes have suggested.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Forecaster Berg is the one sending out these updates. I've noticed he's a little more conservative on upgrading storms than some of the others. Stewart would have it as a major right now

A buoy has reported 50 knot winds, Zeta will go directly on top of the buoy

Is this what helped Wilma reintensify after exiting Florida?

This is one of those rare cases when the HWRF turned out to be bearish

110 mph or 115 mph, it’s gonna be terrible for SE LA either way. At least this won’t be slow-moving and bring long-lasting winds like Sally.

The marshy Mississippi delta may not do much to weaken Zeta upon landfall, especially with baroclinic forcing.

It never does, which is why Mississippi gets slammed with systems that take this trajectory.

I noticed the HWRF (or maybe HMON) had Zeta strengthening some after landfall
