100mph!...

Muscular Zeta intensifying on approach...

Cold front will probably keep the worst winds east of New Orleans...

Thay can't because of how rare it is, I suggested retired as 'Zeta 2020'.

Grad school and illness has kept me busy but wow, a Cat-2 hurricane approaching the Louisiana coast during the last week of October, insane.

Both Delta and Zeta would likely be retired in a slow year with standard names.

I can't find the source at the moment but I believe they will be retired as 'Zeta 2020', etc.

Do you think that Zeta 2020 is similar to Kate 1985 & Opal 1995? I think it is.

12z HWRF shows intensification even AFTER the center has already crossed LA coastline due to baroclinic forcing. Watch out

tiger_deF wrote:The fact that the pressure is high compared to the relatively high FL winds is again another sign of how the atmosphere surrounding the cyclone is allowing Zeta to become stronger than SST's, shear profile, and Climatology would predict otherwise. Zeta is going to do some fascinating things over the next day or so, and from a meteorological standpoint this will be a fairly unique event.

Kind of reminds me of Sandy, with the evolution of tropical and extra-tropical forces in a single system. And on the same day of the year.

Eyewall open a bit to sw but extremely robust on radar and getting even better defined on satellite. 90-95kt not entirely out of the question but when recon leaves we probably won't known for sure. Jaw dropping for the time of year.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

So the next question to be answered after "How strong at landfall?", is "when and where it transition from Tropical to Post-Tropical and how strong?"

Just saw that 12z HMON still shows rapid intensification until landfall in a few hours with a possibility of a low-end cat 3 (12z HMON has 101.5kts at 21z). How long will recon stay in Zeta? It would be unfortunate if it misses Zeta's peak by leaving too early.

Potential impact of inland Zeta could be comparable to Opal, which produced hurricane force winds in NW Atlanta Suburbs.

tiger_deF wrote:What the admins haven't told us is that since the header became frozen on TD Twenty-seven, the season has actually been running in reverse. This would explain the September-like Zeta (analogous to Delta), and I fully expect a Beta equivalent into Texas any day now

No no no on Texas this year. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on installing a new roof since it wasn't taken off this season by a storm. Getting one this late would be horrible and a waste of my money. Lol

Zeta is beginning to interact with land so hopefully recon can get another pass in quickly.
