Student Suspended for Halloween costume..

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Sat Nov 01, 2003 9:39 pm

I know this would make sense to have been put in here Friday but I didn't hear about it till this morning.. plus it happened at my alma mater

OSCEOLA STUDENT SUSPENDED FOR T SHIRT: A student at OHS was suspended Friday for wearing a t shirt that was decorated with condoms. 16 year old Lanessa Riobe decided to make the costume because she saw so many safe sex commercials on TV, she said. She began passing the condoms out to her classmates during 1st period and was later sent home and suspended for 3 days for being a class disruption. She was also reported to have an insolent attitude. Principal Chuck Paradiso commented on the matter stating "This is something you don't do in a public school". Paradiso later reduced her suspension to 1 day. Lanessa's mother Melissa commented on the matter stating " Sex can be deadly and people need to know that.. I just can't believe they'd suspend her for doing something good." Riobe's mother even supported her idea and purchased the condoms for her costume. {source:local6.com}

Clever costume. She could have pulled that off in college, just not high school! What was her mother thinking? You feel bad for the student, since the mother obviously encouraged it. Still it was clever.......

I heard/saw this on the local (Orlando) news Friday evening. Interesting story and something a parent even wasn't against.

LOL!! Clever costume, but dumb idea.

Here at Irving ISD, any student who wears a costume gets the same punishment as that kid. Back when I was in 6th grade, we were allowed to wear costumes, but after that Columbine tragedy, we weren't.

Now if she had been handing out Planned Parenthood brochures, would she still have been suspended? PP hands out condoms in many high schools.
