That warm-core feature is rapidly warming on IR.
A couple more hours of this and I would say that it could be an eye.

If Delta runs right into that cold eddy I see rapid weakening as a possibility, but if it moves just a little to the left of it than the high octane fuel continues throughout a good portion of the gulf
SSTs are plenty warm on top of that eddy, as long as Delta keeps moving cooler upwelling will not be a problem for it in the central GOM.

Chances growing this becomes strongest storm of the season

Lili basically fell apart on approach to Louisiana mainly due to isadore a few days before traveling through the same waters. Isadore cooled the waters ahead of lili a bunch and it showed when Lili weakened a bunch before landfall.

Scary trends. Definitely looks like intensity forecast will have to go up significantly if there isn't a random hiccup with organization

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Agreed, but hopefully the end result will be similar in that as I recall Lili weakened so fast upon approach that the damage inland and even on the coast wasn't especially bad.cainjamin wrote:Delta is reminding me a lot of 2002 Lili. I’m not 100% sure that’s what that is just yet. Motion of the towers just to the north suggests to me that the true center is probably tucked under the se corner of that blob, just to the nw of the warm spot. Doesn’t make much difference though. At this rate of organization I think we’ll see a true eye by late this afternoon if convective bursts aren’t obscuring it

Pretty sure it's already stronger than a minimum TS now.

That would be in conflict with the NHC and every global/ensemble/mesoscale hurricane model.

Is getting organized by the minute this morning, definitely starting to get that hurricane look already.

It definitely has the look of a storm that is itching to get going.

100% will be one of the most longest threads of 2020 but will it beat Laura's main discussion thread that had 392 pages? Isaias had 284 pages on the main discussion thread.

Depending on when recon gets there this might already be a strong TS or minimal hurricane. When are they supposed to enter Delta?

I wish no one would have to deal with this but I have to say I'm encouraged that Michael affected areas are not likely to be impacted much, if at all by Delta if the current trends continue...

There's a lot at play here. Expect many changes to come with final landfall and strength. What's left of Gamma will likely have influences on steering and the environment that gets left behind. It's critical that everyone along the Gulf Coast stay updated to NHC forecasts and their local NWS office.

Is not hurricane Delta striking the Delta region not predestination?
