Near Kemah.. Received some rain, nothing too crazy.
Standard low lying areas receiving flooding from storm surge, expected though.

This doesn't even feel tropical outside of the higher humidity. The temp here feels like it's around 68-69, really amazing. If I didn't know any better, I'd think this was a typical Fall front. Still no rain since last night.

It's nice out there here in Alvin. A nice, quiet rain; 0.8 inches so far since I emptied the rain gauge on Friday. Just a light gust once in a while. I definitely agree with Soupbone -- it definitely doesn't feel tropical at all. Humidity feels low, even with the rain.

Re: ATL: BETA - Tropical Storm - Discussion
One thing I have observed with this storm is that both my air temperatures and dew points have been running about 10 degrees cooler than anything I've experienced before with a tropical cyclone. It feels more like a subtropical system with the dry air, lower temps, lower dew points, and the large, spread-out wind field.
The PWAT map from the SPC shows a huge tongue of drier air wrapping-in on the storm's eastern side, downstream of me.
Looking at the visible loops: I don't think I've ever seen a storm making landfall on the Texas coast, and almost all of the clouds were over land, and to the east of the storm there was more sun than clouds over the Gulf. It's in reverse. That dry air is something else.

Re: ATL: BETA - Tropical Storm - Discussion
The high temperature in Lafayette was 73 yesterday and it's currently 69 and raining. After a long and hot summer it's like we've gone straight into a damp "late October" type of pattern. It doesn't feel tropical at all but I'm not complaining. I believe this is the 4th day in a row of overcast conditions from Beta.

All that sun in the Gulf is going to create some heat and additional instability with that dry air mixing-in. This is actually quite an unusual setup and we could see some pretty intense convective bands set-up later today.

I'm just west of Beaumont. I've had quite a bit of rain, on and off, but mostly light. Winds have been breezy, but nothing crazy.

It looks like a subtropical storm at this point.

It's crazy that the band going into louisiana is staying strong and steady but the dry air is doing it's number on the center

Intense training bands setting up over the Southern Portion of Houston Metro area and inching into Houston proper. Not what we want to see for a populous area prone to flooding events.

Re: ATL: BETA - Tropical Storm - Discussion
It's nearly merged with the cold front along the TX coast now. Warm front is pushing north through Galveston. Only 0.1" of rain in SW Houston today, 1.6" yesterday.
Not much wind offshore. Big dry slot from east of Houston through SW Louisiana. I doubt it has more than a tiny area of TS winds. Looks like recon started heading out then turned around. Waiting for a stronger storm in the Gulf?

This is one perplexing system, don't know what to expect of it for the rest of the week.

Expect any TS winds to be gone by tomorrow morning. The low will stall for a while near Matagorda Bay tonight, then begin accelerating across the NW Gulf Tuesday, moving ashore into LA by Thursday. Not much to it by then. NHC will probably still call it a TD, but it won't have as much moisture associated with it by then.

Quite a bit of lightning in that little storm near the center on radar. Its last gasp.
