NWS Lake Charles on their latest briefing at 4:30 pm still show a potential for a lot of rain for SE TX/SW LA. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Life is trying to form in the center. Let’s see if it last or dies in the morning.

Yeah. Nam 3km has multiple bursts. None of them really get it going but several of them are relatively strong if you looked at the IR Simulation. It’s still raining here. That’s about 30 hours but probably still an inch or less. I’m going to stay up for these last couple waves of rain and then I’ll give it another look tomorrow to see if I’m feeling any flood threats as the next surges of rain reload.

It's unfortunate that Beta is going to affect an area already ravaged by two hurricanes. :( I hope any damage caused by flooding is minimal. Hang in there guys, your luck will hopefully change sooner rather than later. :sun:

The Northern Gulf of Mexico coastal region, in particularly SE Texas to South Alabama. Laura and Sally both affected that area.

Contrasting air masses on the water vapor. You have to give credit to Beta if it can maintain 990’s a few more days. Things are pretty hostile, but right on the edge is where a sheared system should thrive. The trough got pretty deep, but it’s supposed to pull out. I don’t know if it does but it’s still possible that it leaves a piece behind or splits. Because of the anticipated faster speed of Beta to the coast, I’m not sure yet how it’s going to interplay.

Edit forgot the WV loop for evidence.

This strong burst near the CoC will get Beta going if it continues. No other major thunderstorm bands or clusters around the CoC to disrupt the organization. If this continues going into the am, look out.

SE Texas actually lucked out with the mentioned storms, thankfully. I am in SE Texas and after talking with fellow firefighters near Laura and Sally's landfalls they actually did ok.

What about SW Louisiana - have you seen the pictures of the damage?

^^ I deal with Lake Charles issues every day. It’s pretty bad. Sally was bad in some aspects, but it was much weaker. Still, I was there today. Many people who had them were running generators and wishing for some normalcy.

And we wonder why the border is closed.

P.S. I was following this thead during the day and noticed many "hot tower" comments - just because a TCU is blossoming does not mean a system will explode. As we are seeing there are many factors that make or break a tropical system, and right now as the NHC said in the current discussion it's shear and dry air. Any thunderstorms that form will only be short-lived unless there is a major change and that is not forecast right now...

Sorry, I misread the original post, that was my fault. I thought it was just talking about SE Texas.

Man, I really wish Beta would hit slightly south of Corpus Christi. Then go in a NW direction until it gets near George West and then the next front could pick it up from there. We really need the rain here in San Antonio to recharge the Edwards Aquifer a bit.
Also, like another user has said, I believe it is safe to assume that after Beta, Texas will be closed for business as far as hurricane season is concerned. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Hurricane Jerry of 1989 was the late September-October storm to make landfall in Texas

I'm glad that the storm itself is deteriorating , so that the "it's 2020, so it's going to RI" talk can finally stop! The shear and dry was just too much. You can just tell by the presentation it had this morning. It doesn't matter if it's 2020 or not. Hopefully some of the more intense rain bands can die down as well.

Not everything will RI. As I’m going to bed I skimmed through Bastardi. He felt like it would be strongest coming in - between Port Lavaca and Corpus Christi. Who knows?

Not sure who you spoke to but I'm here living in this disaster with no home left, along with thousands of others. People are still without power, cable, internet, drinking water and spotty cell service at best. Many of us more fortunate are now living in campers in our front yards and driveways and now having to evacuate again due to the wind-rain threats from Beta in an unsecured (not tied down) camper amidst the mountains of debris. I've lived here for almost 60 years and have never seen this kind of mass destruction although I lost my home in Rita in 2015.

More like it's 2020 so it will get trashed by shear and dry air.

It is ominous that it is forecast to do a recurve as it crosses the coast. Storms that recurve like that tend to linger and drop a lot of rain, so if it can hold itself together, parts of Texas could still see major flooding, even if the winds are expected to be below hurricane strength.

Beta is wobbling toward a landfall near Corpus if the re-curve is delayed by a stronger ridge.
That probably might mean a track further inland reducing East Texas rainfall QPF dependent on squall banding. Lots of dry slot effect with a track well inland. More time over water would probably guarantee hurricane force winds at landfall though.
