Calcasieu Pass station gusting to 83kts. Water level up 6" in about 10 minutes. Record for that station was Ike at 10ft. Currently 7.4.

But if you insist, trust me, I'm a physicist.

If it survives. It's really intense already. I wonder if it floats?

Cat 5 would require sustained at that level. At most none of the data has supported anything over 155mph.

I would be amazed if a land-based station survived long enough to record anything near that.

Haven’t seen Creole and Grand Chenier mentioned here much but they are about 12-15 miles east of Cameron and will get the full force of the onshore winds. Surge there may be catastrophic. Holly Beach is gonna be in the western eyewall and maybe the western eye with offshore winds.

It's on a pole with ratchet straps, not sure how high it is though.

Levi Cowan:
Lake Charles Regional Airport gusting consistently to hurricane force now, still outside the eyewall. Winds up to 110 mph being observed farther south near Cameron, where the eyewall is coming ashore.

Re: ATL: LAURA - Hurricane - Discussion
The intense inner eyewall is 6-7 miles wide and is entering Cameron and Holly Beach right now.

Category 4 hurricanes frequently produce 160mph+ wind gusts. Would need to be a 1-minute average (very unlikely to be recorded on land) to justify the upgrade.

You know you're a hurricane nut, when your main source of adrenaline is reading old hurricane advisories...

Looks like we'll have to wait till the post to see if Laura was a cat 5. They better not up it to only 155 in the post.

Ripping pretty good as we're under an intense band in SW Lafayette. I'd estimate gusts 55mph+ right now with sideways rain that gets you soaked in seconds. Noticeably warm and humid as well.

Whatever the parish stuck that sign pole into is doing great, too. So far.
