In that case, the reduction from the mean boundary layer from that sonde was 134 knots and the average 150m was 151 knots. However, the low SFMR and flight level winds suggests that we're really looking at 135 knots IMO.

Today, a reporter asked a national guardsman in Beaumont, TX, why there wasn’t a greater number of people taking advantage of organized evacuations. He said, “They are scared of catching COVID and many said they would rather take their chances with the storm.”

I’m thinking Cameron gets the highest winds but highest surge may be to the east.

She looks to be potentially weakening on IR. Maybe due to approaching land perhaps now?

This is the point now we are going to hear of rapidly worse conditions. That very intense northern eyewall is moving ashore now. Hope the Surge isn't as high as feared.

It's getting very close. Flight level winds by themselves will support Cat.5 at this rate.

It's friction with the land, but it can cause last-minute strengthening as well

Man with that FL wind, the last dropsonde, extrapolated pressures in the mid 930s, and radar velocities that's about as close to the edge of cat 5 as it gets.
