So are there multiple competing rotations? To the east of the ascat center there is a pretty strong rotation on radar

On radar we're seeing mostly the mid-level rotation. The low-level rotation is displaced from the mid-level currently (ASCAT shows the low-level vorticity).

Thanks. I’m trying to match it up on visible but I’m having a hard time. I thought I saw the llc on visible where the nhc has it and then convection blew up over it and I lost it.

Looking at the mass as whole on radar it appears headed due west

How is Laura affecting our friends in Puerto Rico?

Stay safe everyone who is in the path of this storm (and I recognize that the exact path is unknown at this time).

Looking at this loop the LLC is south of Puerto rico unless that's the MLC but it looks like a LLC just popped underneath

One which one are you looking at. I see what seems to be 2 rotations south of PR with the strongest along 66w and 17.5n

Correction on that LLC near mona passage that's the MLC south of PR same area your talking about

Could it stall in the striaghts and then bounce due N due to weakness?

The main question is will the islands force the center to jump north seeking water?...

You can just make out some of the low-level flow on the mesoscale satellite loops, a crude outline:

Here is a quick radar overlay to show the displacement currently:

The Cayey doppler radar in the central mountains of PR just had a 62 mph gust.

The 12z HWRF 6hrs is almost spot on where the COC is moving on radar.

It needs to pull up north fast or else it’s got a battle on its hands. Those mountains are no joke. They took Erika and 2015 and beat the crap out of it. Same with Debby in 2000....and those were a lot stronger than this. So I’m not convinced with these models that this thing survives if it takes the long track over the GA. A short track skirting it to the north and it can.

No doubt now the MLC is rotating around and will eventually win out and be the dominant one once the llc crashes and burns over DR. HWRF scenario playing out quite excellent right now.

I've seen some posters on here say that if it is more disorganized then the center can relocate over water more easily
