Yeah that has been a pretty long track tornado with visible TDS. That one band has just been a prolific tornado producer. Wouldn't be surprised to see several EF2 tornadoes from this. Who knows maybe an EF3 in there some of the couplets were pretty impressive for being spawned by a tropical system.

Not to trivialize what has already happened throughout the system life cycle so so far but what are the chances of retirement of Isaias name?
Considering it is going to rake most of the east coast and be a tropical storm the whole time i would say it has a decent chance. Also appears like it will have a pretty significant tornado outbreak tied to it. Prayers to anybody in the path hopefully there is no loss of life.

Strongest winds of the storm for the past few minutes, in the SW quadrant of the storm. Pressure now up a full millibar to 1002mb.

Tornado outbreak to continue today.
Like I have been saying, this storm was packing unusually high helicity.
I wonder if that contributed to its pulsing behavior.
Everyone in its path please stay safe.

Mesoscale Discussion 1392
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0415 AM CDT Tue Aug 04 2020

Areas affected...eastern Virginia into southern New Jersey

Concerning...Tornado Watch 415...

Valid 040915Z - 041215Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 415 continues.

SUMMARY...The threat of tornadoes will continue to spread north out
of southeast Virginia and into Maryland and Delaware.

DISCUSSION...Surface analysis shows strong pressure falls moving out
of northeast NC and into southeast VA, on the order of 3-4 mb/hr. A
band of supercells, tornadic at times, remains largely intact over
southeast VA.

To the north, sporadic small storms have been noted over the past
few hours, and have increased over the Delmarva recently. This is
likely due to pressure falls and low-level warm advection as wind
fields increase.

Over the next several hours, 0-1 SRH in excess of 300 m2/s2 will
spread north, possibly reaching far southern NJ around 12Z. As this
occurs, the environment will become increasingly favorable for
tornadoes with both cells ahead of the main arcing line of storms
and within the line itself.

Biggest tornado threat currently is NE of the eye around the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.

Woke up about an hour ago and it was absolutely pouring until a couple minutes ago, so I guess we had a strong rain band pass over us. Still raining but pretty chill now. Had some thunder as well. The news said there was a radar indicated tornado across the river in New Jersey. So it's already been a pretty eventful morning weather wise, lol.

Suffolk, VA gets hit by a tornado just about every other year. It’s our own mini tornado alley. I would love to understand the dynamics of why that is, it’s definitely above normal compared to the rest of the state.

Well, this was certainly no Matthew, or Isabel for that matter. Kind of like Irene but Irene had higher winds on the back end. A few big gusts and a few decent squalls but that’s about it. We’ve had worse.

It looks like Isaias is already transitioning to an extratropical Storm. I wondering if it will remain tropical all the way to New England now.

Spent last night reading about sting jets. Is that still in play for what will be sweeping over Long Island/New England later? Especially as the system begins to transition to extra tropical? We seem to be escaping the rain event but wind is going to really be an issue for points East and I’m not sure how ready everyone is here with all the outdoor dining that has been set up for COVID reopening. I’m a geneticist and squeaked by with a C in Physics...a lot of this goes over my head, but I try because I love it.

Yeah Mt. Holly radar had like almost 5 simultaneously a couple minutes ago.

Center is over the Chesapeake Bay and moving toward Dover and Atlantic City. It probably stays onshore, but if it dips a toe in the water toward Long Island, you don't wonder if it can briefly crank a hair up or not.
