Is it done for Oak Island/Southport? Southern eyewall shouldn't be too bad, right? Family down there has a tree on the house. They say it was the worst winds they have ever experienced. I heard it while on the phone and I believe them.

Edit: Hearing about trees down everywhere around Brunswick County, NC. :(

I'm between Jacksonville and New Bern. Raining pretty good and winds starting to pick up some. Still have power but it's been blinking so most likely won't be long till we are on the generator.

August 3, 2020 at 11:46 PM EDT - Updated August 4 at 12:02 AM
OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - The eye of Hurricane Isaias came on shore at Ocean Isle Beach around 11 p.m. Monday, sparking a series of fires at homes and bringing a lot of flooding, according to Mayor Debbie Smith.

Mayor Smith tells WECT News there were three fires on Driftwood Drive and another on East 4th Street. It’s unclear the extent of the damage in those fires at this point.

Crews are working to control the situation as Isaias moves away from town.

I'm stranded by a significant storm surge on Oak Island. Backside/SE eyewall much tamer than the NE quad!

Lots of flooded homes here on the island.

Wind gusts are crazy here in Jville. Have had a few large branches fall off and bounce off of the house. Going to be a long couple of hours here. Transformers are blowing all around me.

Thanks for posting. I was wondering how things were going in Jville. It won't be long now for me here in New Bern.

Bust out that camera and video camera if you have a generator to recharge.

Tornado warnings just south of Wilmington with a couple that just expired in Elizabeth City. Might be a few more as it moves up the coast. Y'all be careful up in VA/MD/DE/NJ

Wouldn't this make Isaias a cat 2?

No. The 84 kt winds at flight level translate to about 68 kt at the surface.

Ok, thanks.

Look out of Morehead City shows that some of the secondary bands could spawn tornadoes too. I don't have the upper level data, but it's pretty plain that some of those bands will rotate up with spouts and tornadoes. Again, be careful up there.

I'm in the middle between the 2 of you just off 17. Gusts are starting to get pretty strong here and we still have power, but its been going on and off quite a bit.

News reports coming out from the beaches of Brunswick County do not sound good. It intensified so fast. Just heard the Mayor of Ocean Isle on channel 5 on a telephone call. They had storm surge and now some homes are on fire. Let's keep them
In our prayers.?

I think this has to be the ugliest storm to ever get flight level winds up to 117kts. It had been a few hours and I decided to check in, go to the NHC website, read the discussion, and I made a loud exclamation when I saw the 117kts flight level mentioned. I’m glad they are not making it to the surface, but it sounds like the winds are still pretty bad. I hope everyone stays safe and makes it through this storm with minimal damage and no physical harm.

Just had a funnel cloud over my house in Norfolk, just got out of the tornado warning. It's gonna be a long night.
