For all of the ups-and-downs Isaias has had, he sure seems determined to end on a high note. I hope our friends in NC prepped sufficiently for this, it's a more vicious cyclone than some were likely anticipating...

The reason why those 117 knot winds were not mixed down to the surface, it makes sense.

The aircraft reported 117 kt winds at 700 mb to the
east of the center, but these were not mixed to the surface by
the weak convection in that area, as the maximum SFMR winds were 75
kt. Based on these data, the initial intensity is raised to 75 kt.

Folks in the big cities in the Northeast and New England better be prepared. This additional intensification will result in a strong circulation above the ground. I’d be expecting solid Category 1 winds on the high-rise structures particularly in NYC.

Jim Cantore getting rocked by the eyewall in Wilmington. Can tell he’s struggling bc of the strong winds (around 60 I would think).

Based on all the data, I would estimate 80 kt for the landfall intensity, with a pressure of 985 mb.

Jim Cantore is the best covering landfalls.

I know Mark Sudduth measured 986 mb and another chaser (not dead center) measured 987 mb.

How many times now does this make where the hurricane projected to possibly thrash Florida stays just offshore to the east and hits the Carolinas quite a bit harder once media loses interest?

Florida needs to recalibrate their hurricane shield to send stuff offshore the Carolinas and not into them

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Most of the beach communities in Brunswick county without power now, not much news about the landfall yet but tomorrow as the windfield expands inland further north it will probably headline.

Makes me think that TWC has jumped the shark into the realm of CNN and Fox News. I’ve been watching all of the local stations with live shots on every beach from Myrtle to Emerald Isle, including others on Wrightsville Beach and no one else seemed to experience that. There was one guy with a skateboarding helmet on, lol...
