How many named storms will form in the Atlantic in August (Poll is open for voting until July 31)
I'm going to go with 4, one in the first half of the month, and 3 in the second half.

I honestly have no clue, but once the lid comes off there's truly not much stopping 4+ storms from forming.

I'm going to go with anywhere between 3-5 named storms, two hurricanes and one major. Bonus if the actual number is higher. Just gonna go with a conservative estimate right now.

Conservative: 1-3
Realistic: 2-4
Unrealistic but it's 2020 and nothing would surprise me at this point: 4-7

I’m going with 4. August 2020 could be comparable to that of 2017, with three storms in the heart of the month and an eventual long-tracking major forming at the very very end (Irma ‘17, Florence ‘18).

I agree with the idea of a long-track major hurricane forming sometime in the last third of August. In recent years, the first major hurricane has typically formed in the last week of August.

3 is my prediction, of which one becomes a hurricane and also a major. One TS during first half of Aug, the other 2 systems in the 2nd half of August in the MDR most likely, and one of these will be the major cane that could last into September. This may be a bit conservative but IMO it's the most realistic. Sept should be much busier.

I’m going with five. Three of them being hurricanes with one or two of them majors.

5, of which 2 become hurricanes and 1 major hurricane.
* Hurricane Gonzalo (MDR - cat 2)
* Tropical Storm Hanna (subtropics)
* Tropical Storm Isaias (subtropics)
* Tropical Storm Josephine (GOM)

I really wanted to go with 6, but dry air is usually still hangin around in the first half of the month. Being the common sense conservative I am......5/3/1

I'm going 10 named storms 8 hurricanes 3 majors. The back half of August I think will be hyperactive with the beginning of the month ramping up the activity

I went conservative wth voting for 4 , but I would niot be shocked at all to see up to least 5 to 6 named storms in August.
I think we will get at least one major TC to potentially threaten the CONUS by late August.

I voted 5; thinking 2 in the first 2/3 of the month and 3 more on or after the bell-ringing August 20. Though I wouldn't be surprised if there are more storms during that final third of the month (i.e. MDR train like 1995). I also wouldn't be surprised if the month ends with a significant major spinning out in the MDR or in the Caribbean.

Re: How many named storms will form in the Atlantic in August (Poll is open for voting until July 31)
At the rate the Atlantic is pumping storms out and with a favorable atmospheric setup coming up soon, I think 5 named storms is a better guess for August, and even that might be a bit conservative. Isaias has a decent shot of forming by the end of the month, and the MDR will become more favorable as the weeks go on. I think 5/3/1 is a decent guess for August activity. The single major hurricane could end up as a Cat 4.
Also, if Isaias forms before the end of July, August sees 5 storms, September sees 6, and the rest of the year only sees 3, that’ll still be a total of 23 named storms by the end of the 2020 season, well within the Greeks.

I see no reason to not go whole hog heading into peak season with a prediction of six or more storms.
Furthermore I think we will see three CONUS landfalls, one being a major.

At this rate considering we’ve already seen four named storms this month and there’s still a week left of July I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw six or more storms next month.
Though I voted for five the other day.
